Overview
Early Career Fire and Life Safety Engineer - Buildings at WSP in the U.S. is a full-time role in which you will be involved in projects with the Fire and Life Safety (FLS) Team. You will help meet clients’ objectives and address challenges with innovative technology. Responsibilities
Provide local technical assistance for the design, development, building, testing, and inspecting of fire and life safety systems on building projects in the public and private sector. Assist with research, design, concept development, installation, operation, maintenance, and integration of automatic sprinkler, fire alarm, mass notification, smoke control, egress analysis, and building and fire code analysis review and compliance. Generate accurate documentation regarding assigned aspects of the project and ensure quality meets industry standards for design, safety, and functionality. Collect, compile, and analyze data from the work site, surveys, blueprints, schematics, and technical reports for project development and construction. Perform basic professional fire and life safety engineering work including research and inspections of site conditions, equipment, resources, building infrastructure, usage, and systems to determine conformance with applicable codes and permits. Support with design requirements, load calculations, and operating strategies to ensure proper installation and functioning of equipment and systems. Verify site characteristics and provide technical assistance on engineering, design, and construction issues related to sprinkler design, fire alarm and mass notification systems, smoke control, egress, commissioning, and code compliance. Adhere to safety guidelines, company policies, and project procedures; complete training on assigned tasks as required. Demonstrate responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company resources and conduct. Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Fire Protection Engineering or a closely related discipline. 0 to 1 year of relevant post-education experience. Excellent research skills with an analytical mindset. Familiarity with design/build concepts and relevant mechanical system codes and regulations. Strong interpersonal and communication skills for engineering and non-engineering audiences. Detail-oriented, capable of multi-tasking, and able to work independently or as part of a team. Basic proficiency with technical writing, office software, and engineering tools; familiarity with AutoCAD or CAM. Willingness to travel occasionally depending on project requirements. Ability to uphold workplace safety and comply with WSP health and safety policies. Preferred Qualifications
Engineer in Training Certification. Prior internship related to the degree and engineering discipline. Participation in local professional organizations. Knowledge of REVIT and AutoCAD and experience in fire protection engineering design applications. Compensation and Benefits
