Overview

Mendocino-Lake Community College District is currently accepting applications for a Short-Term, Non-Continuing Lab Technician for the Sustainable Construction Technology department. This is a short-term, non-continuing opportunity. By applying, you’ll be added to our pool of candidates and considered for upcoming openings as well as on-call shifts as they come up. This position is temporary and non-continuing. We are seeking an equity-minded person who is committed to supporting our diverse student population and faculty within the District Mission.

Representative Duties

Assist with the setup, cleanup and completion of projects in the lab setting of the Sustainable Construction Technology department. Prepare and set up supplies; research some media; prepare and set up lab equipment. Organize lab times; assure critical lead time for labs are maintained; troubleshoot experiments that failed during the process or due to student errors; research new adopted experiments as directed. Maintain laboratory supplies, materials, and equipment in a safe and orderly condition; clean lab after use; ensure first aid kits and equipment are operational as required. Complete periodic inventory of supplies; initiate requisitions for the purchase of supplies and equipment and submit for signature and approval. Communicate with vendors and sales representatives; perform cost comparisons and obtain technical information regarding equipment and instruments being considered for purchase; maintain budget records and petty cash. Receive, store, and dispense supplies and equipment including hazardous chemicals; be responsible for off-site disposal of hazardous wastes. Ensure safety in the labs; explain labeling and safety procedures; maintain current knowledge of proper handling of chemicals and disposal of hazardous materials. Operate a variety of construction equipment; perform minor repairs of instruments. Issue and check out student equipment; restock as necessary. Serve as a resource for part-time instructors in the use of facilities, equipment, instruments, and supplies including safety regulations; Communicate with inspectors and safety officers and explain the layout of facilities; inspect classrooms and storage facilities. Attend meetings and workshops as directed; perform related duties as assigned by supervisor. Working Conditions

Construction lab environment; possible exposure to chemical fumes and hazardous materials and chemicals such as carcinogens, teratogens, poisons, potential explosives, etc. Qualifications

Must meet Human Resources guidelines for qualified hiring, including a Live Scan background check and completion of TB test. Knowledge Of

Physical demands include reaching, bending, walking, moderate lifting (up to 50 lbs), standing for long periods, and the ability to handle and preserve live materials as required. Application Procedure
