Mammography Technologist

MyMichigan Health The position is responsible for producing high quality mammographic images and all related special examinations (e.g., needle localizations, radiography of specimens, spot magnifications, stereotactic biopsies). It also includes performing quality assurance activities as established by the department and regulatory agencies in a timely and accurate manner. Responsibilities
Performs high quality mammographic examinations with accurate positioning and proper technique by following established standards. Minimize radiation exposure to patients and staff by practicing radiation protection techniques. Demonstrates proficiency in special procedures: needle localizations, radiography of specimens, spot magnification views and/or stereotactic breast biopsies, and Bone Densitometry testing (DEXA) if performed in their department. Shares in daily work related responsibilities such as stocking supplies, linen, and cleaning equipment. Ensures operation of mammography equipment by completing preventive maintenance instructions; troubleshooting equipment; calling for service. Performs daily quality assurance testing and monitoring established by the department in a timely and accurate manner. Has knowledge of and adheres to guidelines and standards of regulatory agencies. Serves on teams which examine and decide policy regarding mammography and mammography-related procedures when asked. Documents patient mammogram services by completing patient record charting. Updates job knowledge by participating in continuing educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations. ARRT - Registered Radiologic Technologist (Reg Radiologic Technologist) ARRT Mammographer (Mammography) Basic Life Support (BLS) Education and Experience
Education: Associate Degree (Degree in Healthcare Related Field). Knowledge of radiologic technique as normally acquired through completion of a JRCERT-approved school of Radiologic Technology. ARRT registered or registry eligible in mammography within 6 months of hire required. Experience: Required equivalent experience—knowledge of radiologic technique as normally acquired through completion of a JRCERT-approved school of Radiologic Technology, or equivalent. ARRT registered in radiography. Additional Requirements
Meet continuing requirements of documentation of 15 hours of continuing education credits in mammography during the last three years. Within 1 month of hire or transfer: BLS and other job-specific requirements. Physical/Mental Requirements and Working Conditions
Exposure to stressful situations, including those involving public contact, trauma, grief and death. Ability to wear personal protective equipment, move about the facility, perform the functions of the job, and maintain overall vision and hearing with or without assistive devices. Regular and predictable attendance; ability to handle multiple tasks; dexterity for handling, reaching, grasping, fingering, and repetitive movements. Lift or carry up to 11-20 lbs occasionally and up to 10 lbs frequently; walking/standing for long periods. Some exposure to blood borne pathogens and other potentially infectious materials.
