Controller, Prestigious Climate-Focused Venture Capital Fund
Our client, a prestigious climate-focused venture capital firm, is looking for a controller to join their growing team. He/she will work directly with the Head of Finance and investment team on a variety of initiatives. The Controller will be responsible for core accounting and operational functions of the Funds. This is an exciting but demanding role for a person interested in growing with the firm and being involved with multiple parts of the organization.
Responsibilities
Fund Finance and Accounting: Prepare annual audited financial statements and tax schedules
Assist with the preparation of quarterly investor capital account statements
Review the underlying investment holdings, including cost, valuations, capital calls, distributions, unrealized gains/losses, etc.
Review fund level expenses and income
Respond to investor inquiries
Prepare ad hoc reports and analysis as needed
Legal: Assisting in compliance to ensure that the finance function of the firm is in compliance with all SEC and FINRA rules and regulations
Maintaining legal abstracts and investment closing sets
Operations: Assist in the collection of portfolio company financial information and analysis
Qualifications
A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting/Finance/Economics
5-8 years of relevant experience – experience in venture capital, private equity, or other investment management industry preferred. Work in an SEC-registered RIA firm or a FINRA-registered broker-dealer is a plus.
Public accounting experience and CPA preferred but not required.
A basic understanding of limited partnership/limited liability company structures and fund accounting is a plus.
Must be able to provide an entrepreneurial hands-on approach to enhance finance operations. This is a small office, so this person must be comfortable and excited to wear many different hats and work on multiple projects simultaneously.
Independent and flexible problem solver with the ability to adjust effectively to change.
Cross-functional project management and multi-tasking is essential.
Must be detail-oriented with strong organization skills.
Excellent analytical and communication skills.
