Overview
The Regional Safety Manager for South Florida is a key business partner/resource for regional leadership and project teams, implementing and executing the company Safety, Health and Environmental Program. This role serves as the primary liaison between the EHS Department and the South Florida Miami Region. The Miami region currently includes 27 active construction projects, from Miami to West Palm Beach, and may grow as Moss expands in Florida. The region is supported by four senior safety managers; this role will collaborate with them and project teams to prevent injuries and incidents.
The EHS leader will assist with safety, health and environmental preconstruction reviews, support loss control activities, review incident reports, assist with investigations, mentor Sr. Safety and Site Safety Managers, conduct monthly project audits, and identify trends/kaizen opportunities in the region.
Essential Job Duties And Responsibilities
Perform safety, health and environmental reviews of projects and the region, including producing reports, conducting meetings, reporting findings to management, and following up to ensure corrective actions are completed.
Conduct weekly site EHS audits.
Partner with operations and project trade contractors to implement the company’s comprehensive Safety, Health, and Environmental Program.
Investigate employee inquiries, suggestions, and complaints.
Provide guidance on regulatory and legislative matters (OSHA, DOT, EPA, ANSI, etc.) to regional leadership and project teams.
Serve as liaison between the company and regulatory agencies.
Lead the OSHA Voluntary Protection Programs (VPP) activities for the region.
Participate in industry safety groups and committees (AGC/ABC).
Assist with inspections and other safety-related activities as needed.
Maintain safety, environmental and health documents and records.
Coordinate and conduct training sessions as necessary.
Educate employees about safety issues through topics such as hazard recognition.
Monitor the performance of safety managers in the region to ensure compliance with safety policies and procedures.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Travel within the South Florida Miami Region 50–75%.
Support the South Florida North Region (North of Miami) when needed.
Knowledge & Skills
Willingness to support and advance the EHS efforts of the organization.
Verbal and written English communication skills are required.
Bilingual (Spanish) preferred.
Initiative and problem-solving skills are required.
Previous leadership experience as a Regional Safety Leader and managing direct reports is required.
Strong partnering ability across multiple levels of the organization.
Working knowledge of OSHA construction 1926 standards required.
Technical knowledge in cranes, critical lifts, excavations, and working from elevated heights.
Education And Work Experience
Bachelor’s degree in safety or related field
Advanced degree preferred
Certified Safety Professional (CSP)
CHST (Certified Health Safety Technician) or higher required
Minimum seven to ten years of EHS leadership experience
Five to ten years of construction experience
Computer proficiency in MS Word, Outlook, and Excel
Knowledge of Intelex is highly desired
Knowledge of Procore is highly desired
