Overview Coffman Engineers is seeking a

Fire Protection Engineer

with six or more years of working experience to be part of our Denver office growth and culture. The successful candidate will have a desire to work, grow, and collaborate with a multi-discipline engineering team. The Denver Fire Protection Engineering department collectively has 50+ years of experience in Fire Protection Engineering across our department of six. We enjoy working together collaboratively in the office while supporting and challenging each other to deliver good engineering work that makes the world a safer place.

Responsibilities

Provide fire protection engineering design and analysis, including fire and life safety code analysis; egress analysis; fire resistant rated construction analysis; automatic suppression system design and analysis; fire detection, alarm and communication system design and analysis; smoke control design and special inspections; and general fire protection and life safety concepts.

Work with a multi-discipline team (civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, fire protection, and project/construction management) to meet client objectives.

Develop performance-based designs and engineering judgments for code alternatives; perform analysis of existing fire protection systems and design new systems (including suppression, detection, alarm, and mass notification).

Contribute to project management activities, client communications, and peer reviews; participate in professional organizations as appropriate.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) from an accredited college or university in Fire Protection Engineering or Fire Sciences. Degree in another engineering field with fire protection experience also considered.

Six (6) or more years of experience in the fire protection engineering/consulting profession.

Professional Engineer (PE) or ability to obtain PE within 2 years; NICET level III/IV also considered.

Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including oral presentation skills.

Ability to work on a highly motivated team, think creatively, and be committed to expanding knowledge and skills.

Desired Skills and Duties

Intermediate computer skills (email, word processing, spreadsheets, basic graphics).

Working knowledge of AutoCAD, Revit, and fire protection software packages (e.g., CONTAM, FDS).

Strong report writing and persuasive technical communication skills.

Ability to manage day-to-day client contacts and internal projects with a focus on meeting expectations.

Project management experience for internal and external client needs.

Participation in local and national professional organizations (SFPE, NFPA).

Ability to provide peer reviews of colleagues’ work products; develop an area of expertise within fire protection engineering.

Perform building and fire code analyses and interpretations; prepare performance-based designs and fire hazards analyses.

Develop engineering judgements for code alternatives; analyze existing fire protection systems and design new systems (suppression, detection, alarm, mass notification).

Conduct research and documentation for internal and external distribution.

Compensation and Employment This position is not eligible for sponsorship.

The expected salary for this position is $95,000 - $115,000 annually.
