Quality Control / DPI Engineer – Gulf of Mexico
Location: Houston, TX (with occasional offshore visits as required). Duration: 12 Months (with potential for extension). Work Schedule: 5/40 (Office-based with hybrid flexibility).
About the Role
Our client, a leading international energy company, is seeking a Quality Control / DPI Engineer to support its Gulf of Mexico (GoM) operations. This position will be based in Houston, TX, providing critical support to the Offshore Wellsite Team. The role focuses on ensuring quality assurance, discipline performance improvement (DPI), and compliance with company standards, industry regulations, and project requirements across drilling and completions activities.
Responsibilities
Provide Houston-based quality control and DPI support to offshore GoM drilling and completions teams.
Review and validate service provider quality documentation, including inspection and testing records, certificates, and manufacturing data reports.
Ensure equipment and materials for offshore operations meet technical specifications, project requirements, and applicable API/ISO standards.
Support the development and implementation of QA/QC plans, procedures, and checklists for offshore well construction and intervention activities.
Track quality issues, deviations, and non-conformances; coordinate with vendors and contractors to ensure timely resolution and corrective actions.
Collaborate with the offshore Wellsite Team, Drilling & Completions Engineers, and Contractors to ensure quality standards are consistently met.
Conduct root cause analyses and lessons-learned reviews, feeding results into DPI initiatives.
Participate in vendor audits, equipment inspections, and factory acceptance tests (FATs) as required.
Support reporting and KPI tracking for quality and performance metrics.
Act as a liaison between Houston office, offshore operations, and vendor facilities to ensure alignment on quality expectations and requirements.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Quality Management, or related field.
8+ years of experience in drilling and completions operations, with at least 3+ years in QA/QC or DPI-focused roles.
Familiarity with Gulf of Mexico regulatory requirements and API/ISO quality standards for oilfield equipment and services.
Demonstrated experience supporting offshore projects from an onshore office environment.
Strong vendor management skills with the ability to hold contractors accountable for quality deliverables.
Proven ability to track, analyze, and improve discipline performance (KPIs, lessons learned, continuous improvement).
Excellent written and verbal communication skills; able to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams.
Must be authorized to work in the U.S. for any employer without sponsorship.
Prior experience supporting an operator in GoM operations.
ASQ Certified Quality Engineer (CQE) or equivalent certification.
Previous involvement in offshore wellsite audits, inspections, or quality surveillance.

The employee must be certified and meet the medical and health standards to work in offshore environments, including cardiovascular fitness, respiratory proficiency, and overall physical wellness.
While performing the duties of this Job, the employee will routinely engage in activities such as sitting, walking, standing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling. They will be tasked with lifting heavy objects weighing up to 50 pounds, climbing ladders, and navigating uneven surfaces for extended periods.
Additionally, the employee should demonstrate manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination for using tools, operating machinery, and executing intricate tasks. Furthermore, employee must be able to use hands repetitively to finger, handle, feel, or operate standard office equipment. Effective communication, both orally and telephonically, is essential. Successful candidates must exhibit specific vision abilities of close vision, distance vision and the ability to adjust focus.
