Connecticut State employment opportunity for POST-C Certified officers or recently retired Police Officers to apply for a unique and exciting role in the Department of Motor Vehicles, Commercial Vehicle Safety Division (CVSD). Responsibilities

Inspect motor vehicles for conformance to established statutory, regulatory and policy standards, verify ownership, authenticate vehicle identification numbers and related documentation; complete necessary forms and reports; maintain files. Inspect sites of proposed, existing or unlicensed facilities and/or locations for compliance with applicable requirements; investigate and resolve complaints against regulated businesses; exchange information with local/state police and other agencies. Explain motor vehicle laws, regulations, policies and procedures to the public and inform individuals or business concerns of violations or deficiencies; conduct special inspections or investigations as assigned; assign and affix numbers to authenticated vehicles; may impound stolen vehicles; may arrest or testify as needed. May conduct safety training, maintain building security and perform patrol duties as required; perform related duties as required. Specialized Units & Training

Specialized training in School Bus, HAZMAT, Motorcoach, Tanker inspections, and more; rotate through units to provide diverse investigative focus. New hires must complete North American Standard Inspection (NASTI) certification (2 weeks) and twelve weeks of field training. Qualifications

Minimum: Certification as a law enforcement officer in Connecticut under POST or pending recertification status with temporary employment possibility. Substitutions: Completion of Protective Services Trainee requirements may satisfy minimum qualifications. Preferred: Experience in traffic safety, highway patrol or commercial enforcement; ability to apply motor vehicle laws; strong customer communication; experience performing roadside enforcement; conflict management. Special Requirements

Authority to arrest and present suspects; valid Motor Vehicle Operator’s license; 21 years or older; eligibility to bear arms; complete inspection authority training within six months. Selection standards per CT statutes and POST Council regulations; background investigation may be conducted. Working Conditions

Exposure to physical exertion, outdoor conditions, and potential hazards during vehicle inspections, road tests, and inspections of heavy vehicles; may be required to work weekends or evenings for emergencies. Compensation & Benefits
