Job Title: Senior Mechanical Engineer - Ultrasound
Job Description
Your role: The Senior Mechanical Engineer will lead the design, development, and optimization of mechanical components for ultrasound products, with a focus on plastic part design and tooling. This role involves collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality, reliable, and manufacturable ultrasound systems that meet regulatory and performance standards. You are responsible for Plastic Part Design: Design and develop plastic components for Ultrasound products, ensuring durability, precision, and compatibility with medical standards. Tooling Development: Oversee the design and specification of injection molding tools, ensuring high-quality production of plastic parts. Collaborate with tooling vendors to optimize mold designs for cost, efficiency, and quality. Material Selection: Select appropriate plastic materials (e.g., ABS, PC, PEEK) based on mechanical, thermal, and biocompatibility requirements for Ultrasound applications. Design for Manufacturability (DFM): Apply DFM principles to ensure plastic components and tooling designs are optimized for high-volume production, minimizing defects and costs. Prototyping and Testing: Lead the development of prototypes for plastic components, conducting mechanical testing (e.g., stress, fatigue, and thermal analysis) to verify designs. Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work with electrical engineers, software engineers, and industrial designers to integrate mechanical components into Ultrasound systems. Tolerance Analysis: Perform tolerance stack-up analysis to ensure proper fit and function of plastic components within Ultrasound assemblies. Project Management: Lead mechanical engineering projects, managing timelines, budgets, and deliverables. Provide technical guidance to junior engineers and oversee design reviews. Sustainability and Cost Optimization: Incorporate sustainable design practices and cost-effective solutions in plastic part and tooling designs without compromising quality. You're the right fit if: Master/bachelor's in mechanical engineering with 10+ years of experience Expertise in design techniques, application domain and engineering. Keeps it up-to-date and propagates it, both internal and external. Experience in any of the configuration management tools (E.g. eMarix, Windchill, SAP) and techniques is a mandatory requirement. Ability to technically lead a team with Domain Expertise in Machine Design, Manufacturing process, Materials selection, Value Engineering Knowledge and Experience in Thermal modeling, analysis and design is preferred. Analytical, creative, and intellectual thinker, with ability to perform mechanical design calculations & verify designs. Good Knowledge of Manufacturing processes like Sheet Metal & Fabrication / Plastic / Machining while designing. Good command of skills like Reliability measures, DFSS (Design for Six Sigma), Risk Analysis, DFMEA, DFM, GD & T, Tolerance Stack up Analysis etc. Lateral thinker with bird’s eye view, capable of finding an appropriate solution to complex problems. Knowledge of and experience in hardware/software interfaces, understanding of cross functional operations Exposure to work in a global environment, ability to communicate on different levels, good listener, coach and guide project team, with good presentation skills. Working knowledge of CAD & FEA Tools like Proe / SolidWorks / Windchill / Ansys Classic / Ansys Workbench will be added advantage. Exposure to International Medical Quality and Regulatory Standards e.g. IEC, FDA, CFR, MDD, UL, CE, CSA, BIS etc. will be added advantage. Experience in the field of Medical Devices product design e.g. Ultrasound will be added advantage. About Philips
