This role: "Clinical Dietitian I" works with the multidisciplinary healthcare team to provide patient care aligned with patient-focused medical goals. This position is typically for dietitians early in their career or those who have recently completed internships/pre-professional experiences. For complex cases, guidance is available from higher-level staff.
What You Will Do
Performs comprehensive nutrition assessments using evidence-based parameters (anthropometric, medical/clinical, biochemical, diet history, physical examination) and identifies nutrition problems and etiologies.
Develops patient care plans with nutrition interventions and goals that consider age, population-specific needs, cultural/religious/ethnic factors, and defines care timelines and follow-up.
Monitors and documents nutrition-related outcomes using relevant indicators aligned with the nutrition diagnosis and medical goals.
Assesses educational needs and provides nutrition counseling based on individual requirements and circumstances.
Communicates nutrition interventions to the medical team and participates in interdisciplinary meetings, rounds, and in-services.
Delegates or coordinates nutrition plans with other professionals and across continuity of care when appropriate.
Acts as a nutrition resource and educator to staff, students, and the public; conducts in-services and educational presentations; collaborates with food service to ensure prescriptions are followed.
Serves as a preceptor for dietetic students and interns; provides instruction and feedback.
Participates in continuous quality improvement activities and departmental/interdisciplinary projects as assigned.
Maintains productivity, accurate records for scheduling/billing, manages resources efficiently, and ensures timely documentation per department standards.
Maintains dietetic registration and continuing education; develops a portfolio for professional growth.
Performs other related duties as requested or directed.
Education Qualifications
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in dietetics, nutrition, or a related field from an accredited program; completion of an ACEND-accredited didactic program and supervised practice.
Experience Qualifications
One (1) year of work experience as a clinical dietitian or completion of a clinically focused internship.
Required Knowledge, Skills And Abilities
Knowledge of the Nutrition Care Process and ability to apply all steps.
Comprehensive knowledge of nutrition services and medical nutrition therapy.
General knowledge of electronic medical records, nutrient analysis, word processing, and spreadsheets.
Effective written, verbal, and electronic communication with patients, families, staff, and physicians.
Ability to function independently on assigned units and clinics; ability to counsel and educate others.
Critical thinking, data analysis, active listening, and collaborative problem solving.
Decision making and teamwork skills.
Licenses and Certifications
Registered Dietitian (RD) or Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) within 90 days of hire.
