Overview

The Telecommunications Technician 2 will work in a modular construction facility, prefabricating electrical module cabling, communication spaces, pre-terminating cables, pathways, and equipment. The Technician 2 is responsible for planning, layout, and complete installation of new commercial and retrofit communications systems in accordance with all applicable plans, specifications, codes, and standards. Extensive experience with structured cable plant installation, termination, and testing in commercial environments is required. Experience with Data Centers, Hospitals, or Airports is a plus.

Responsibilities

Install video and data cables, including Cat 5E, Cat 6, and fiber optic cables.

Terminate and test horizontal copper cables (Cat 5, Cat 6).

Terminate fiber optic cables.

Install patch panels, cable trays, racks, and conduit.

Read and interpret plans and specifications.

Mentor apprentices and assist in outside plant (OSP) installations.

Pull cables, install prefab assemblies, and assist with grounding and bonding.

Troubleshoot and fix cable problems.

Knowledge of fiber termination connectors and fiber optic cables.

Provide own hand tools and be capable of supervising and training apprentices.

Adhere to safety standards and wear provided PPE.

Qualifications

4+ years of experience in the commercial communications industry with a high school diploma or GED, or 2+ years with an Associate degree.

Valid driver’s license and ability to operate equipment.

Experience with room build-outs, cable termination, and interpreting drawings.

Familiarity with BlueBeam, Fluke Versiv, MS Office, Word, Excel.

Knowledge of BICSI guidelines for installation and termination.

Abilities

Lift at least 100 pounds and work at heights up to 60 feet.

Climb ladders, scaffolds, and lifts; maintain balance and safety.

Visual and auditory acuity; communicate effectively in English.

Recognize problems and apply general rules to solve them.

Close-range vision and detailed observation skills.
