The Marketing & Communications Manager is responsible for developing and executing marketing and communication strategies that enhance awareness, engagement, and fundraising efforts for Blue Ridge Humane Society. This role oversees social media, digital campaigns, donor communications, and branding to strengthen the organization\'s visibility and donor connections. Responsibilities

Develop and implement marketing and communications plans to support fundraising, community engagement, and donor relations. Ensure consistent and appropriate use of organizational branding, logos, and materials across all platforms, channels, staff, partners, and vendors. Collaborate with leadership to align strategies with organizational priorities and maintain an integrated editorial/content calendar. Create and manage digital content including social media posts, website updates, and email campaigns. Oversee photography, videography, and design projects to ensure compelling and consistent storytelling. Manage production of marketing collateral such as brochures, posters, banners, and event signage. Maintain website content for accuracy, accessibility, and SEO optimization, ensuring integration with donation and event systems. Monitor and analyze engagement metrics, campaign performance, and media reach; prepare regular reports to leadership with outcomes, trends, and recommendations. Conduct audience research and track nonprofit marketing trends to recommend new tools and approaches. Develop, place, and monitor paid advertising campaigns (print, digital, radio, outdoor) and seek in-kind advertising opportunities. Develop compelling written content for newsletters, impact reports, press releases, media alerts, and promotional materials. Serve as the primary media contact, cultivating relationships with journalists and influencers, and responding to inquiries. Prepare staff and board members for media interviews, including drafting talking points and message alignment. Build and maintain partnerships with local businesses, civic groups, and community influencers to expand awareness. Represent the organization at community events and external engagements as needed. Collaborate with the Development team on donor appeals, capital campaign messaging, sponsorship deliverables, and stewardship communications. Ensure timely and accurate donor recognition across communications platforms. Support program staff in promoting clinics, food distributions, and educational events. Provide staff and volunteers with training and resources to ensure consistent messaging and brand usage. Supervise volunteers assisting with communications and marketing projects. Produce internal staff communications such as updates, newsletters, and staff spotlights to support organizational culture. Maintain a crisis communications plan to ensure clear, timely, and sensitive messaging during emergencies. Draft urgent communications for the public, media, and supporters in collaboration with leadership. Develop and manage the annual marketing and communications budget. Source and manage vendors, freelancers, and contractors for marketing and communications projects. Track return on investment for campaigns, events, and advertising initiatives. Maintain marketing and donor communication databases, ensuring accuracy and segmentation for targeted outreach. Partner with Animal Care, Community Support, and Thrift Store teams to highlight their programs and generate consistent messaging across the organization. Assist with drafting or editing communication sections of grant proposals, reports, and foundation updates as needed. Safeguard confidential donors, clients, and organizational information in all communications. Stay current on marketing platforms, design tools, and nonprofit communication trends, and participate in training to enhance skills and compliance. Ensure all communications comply with accessibility standards, donor privacy laws, and ethical fundraising practices. Collaborate with the Events team to market and promote fundraising and community events. Provide onsite communications support at events including live social media posting, photography, and media management. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications, Work Environment & Physical Demands

Bachelor’s degree in communications, Marketing, or a related field (preferred). Minimum 4 years of experience in marketing, communications, or nonprofit outreach. Proficiency in Canva, WordPress, Adobe Creative Suite, social media, and email marketing tools. Strong writing, storytelling, and brand management skills. Ability to analyze digital engagement data and refine strategies accordingly. Ability to work with a diverse population and establish and maintain effective and harmonious working relationships with the public, donors, volunteers, staff and management in a respectful and courteous manner. Work is performed in an office environment and requires the ability to operate standard office equipment and keyboards. Must have the ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs. and carry small parcels, packages and other items, to walk short distances, and drive a vehicle to deliver and pick up materials. May be working with potential biohazards related to animal exposure and may be exposed to animal diseases and/or diseased animals. Must be able to work safely with a variety of cleaning materials. Must love animals AND people. Must be willing to give permission for a background check and a DMV report. Must possess a valid, unrestricted North Carolina driver’s license with a driving record acceptable by Blue Ridge Humane Society’s insurance carrier. May be asked to submit to drug testing during employment.
