Under the direction of the Education & Fine Arts Manager, the instructor will provide music education instruction to students of all ages and ability levels in a specified instrumental or vocal subject area, design instructional programs, prepare lesson plans and instructional materials, present subject matter demonstrating proper techniques, and perform classroom management tasks. Also prepare students for readiness to perform in Kroc Center musical program recitals and performances as required.
Responsibilities
To provide state of the art and relevant instruction that contributes to each member class/program goals.
Ability to teach beginners through advanced learners.
Provide individual and group guidelines for development in programs.
Critique and give feedback to participants regarding their work and performance level.
Ability to develop, implement and evaluate programs and classes according to desired outcomes and goals.
Maintain an open communication with the respective program manager/coordinator in regards to class development and scheduling.
Maintain a professional demeanor and attitude with students of all ages, patrons, customers, staff and upper management.
Ensure that any classroom changes or modifications are communicated to all classroom participants in an efficient manner.
Carry out program evaluations as directed.
Develop and instruct fun, energetic and motivational classes for all ages and skill levels.
Design instructional programs, prepare lesson plans and instructional materials, present subject matter demonstrating proper techniques, and perform classroom management tasks.
Speak before both small and large groups with poise and enthusiasm.
Create, teach, demonstrate and implement planned practices suitable for all ages and abilities.
Provide a safe, fun and enjoyable learning environment for all participants.
Implement safety measures for classes to ensure the health and safety of participants, and work with program manager/coordinator on health and safety policies and risk assessments.
Adhere to Safe From Harm Policies and Procedures; ensure compliance by all class members.
Maintain a safe working environment and report any harmful problems with facilities to the proper supervisor.
Generate legible and accurate accident and incident reports as required and notify appropriate personnel of accidents or unsafe conditions.
Ensure the goal of spiritual, emotional and physical regeneration is reflected in programs, trainings, and interactions.
Be on time and prepared to teach; promote equality and fairness among participants; follow The Salvation Army policies and procedures.
Qualifications
Appropriate prior experience teaching or working in the area of instruction specified; required. Experience varies by class.
Certification or a degree in related field or level of expertise required.
Must have up to date personal insurance prior to employment where applicable.
Must have a high school diploma or GED equivalency.
Must be at least 18 years old.
Strong organizational skills and abilities; ability to work with minimal supervision.
Ability to demonstrate various skills in the area of instruction specified.
A minimum of one (1) year experience teaching various or specific group exercise programs.
Current First Aid, CPR and AED preferred.
Excellent communication and leadership skills.
Must be able to read, write and communicate in English; ability to speak Spanish desired.
Must have physical ability to instruct appropriate classes.
Meet all health and safety regulations as defined by the Health Department and The Salvation Army.
Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel preferred.
Ability to work and relate well with people; willingness to work weekdays, weekends and holidays as needed.
Complete Safe From Harm training and become certified as Safe From Harm Train the Trainer; background check required before hire.
