Schedule F General Statement of Responsibilities
The function of a coach is to educate students through participation in interscholastic competition. An interscholastic program should be designed to enhance academic achievement and promote opportunities for academic success. Coaches must treat students with respect and consider their welfare in all decisions. They have a significant influence over students and should instill high ethical and moral standards, upholding the honor and dignity of the profession. Ethical integrity should be evident in all interactions with students, officials, administrators, and the community. Major Duties
Be knowledgeable of and enforce federal, state, and district policies, rules, regulations, and procedures. Adhere to standards of professional conduct as outlined in Governing Board Policy. Follow guidelines established by the NO Pass/NO Play policy. Ensure the safety and welfare of all participants in practice areas, locker rooms, and on transportation. Support the overall school athletic program by developing strategies to encourage student participation. Maintain accurate inventory, storage, issuance, care, and collection of athletic equipment. Follow district policies related to transportation, supervision, facilities, and keys management. Schedule, organize, supervise, and control practices, competitions, and pre/post season events. Possess knowledge of the sport coached. Head Coach Additional Responsibilities
Manage budgets tied to the athletic program. Ensure proper supervision and conduct of assistant and volunteer coaches. Qualifications
Candidate must be at least 21 years old. Possess a current CPR certification. Meet all coaching qualifications, course requirements, and certifications as per federal, state, and district criteria. Pass a background investigation as outlined by the district. Be recommended by the principal or designee. Receive Governing Board approval. Possess an active Arizona Department of Public Safety IVP Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card. In addition, a Head Coach at varsity, JV, or freshman levels must possess a valid Arizona Teacher or Substitute Certificate. Lower-level coaches without certification must work under the supervision of a certified staff member. Volunteer Coach Requirements
Must always be supervised by a full-time certified staff member, designated through PUHSD's approved process. Supervision
Receives supervision from the Unit Principal, Assistant Principal, or certified staff members. Provides supervision to assistant and volunteer coaches. Prepared by, Approved by, Assistant Superintendent, and Personnel approval details are documented as per district records.
