Overview
Assistant Professor of Architecture (Tenure-Track). The Bernard and Anne Spitzer School of Architecture seeks applications for a full-time, tenure-track position in architecture at the rank of assistant professor. The field of specialty is architectural technology. This faculty appointment is anticipated to commence in Fall 2026 and includes teaching, research, and service responsibilities allied with Spitzer's NAAB-accredited programs in architecture—a five-year Bachelor of Architecture degree, and a three-year Master of Architecture degree. The successful candidate must be a dedicated teacher, demonstrating commitment to and experience in teaching the core curriculum in architecture, including design studios and the required construction technology sequences in the undergraduate and graduate programs, as well as elective seminars in architectural technology. Spitzer is committed to social and sustainable concerns in practice, and to providing access to education in the art, history, and technology of architecture, urban design, and landscape architecture to a broad and diverse student population. A prospective faculty member should contribute to this intellectual atmosphere and to Spitzer’s mission of access to excellence within the academy and the design professions. The successful candidate will share responsibility for committee and department assignments including administrative, supervisory and other functions. Teach core curriculum in architecture, including design studios and construction technology sequences in undergraduate and graduate programs. Offer elective seminars in architectural technology. Engage in scholarly activities and research appropriate to a tenure-track appointment and contribute to service responsibilities within the department. Qualifications
Required:
Candidates must hold a NAAB-accredited M.Arch degree and a professional license to practice architecture or a doctoral degree in a relevant field. Also required are the ability to teach successfully, demonstrated scholarship or achievement, and the ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution. A record of multiple publications (books, articles, and/or reviews) or evidence of future scholarly excellence and productivity is required. Preferred Qualifications
Experience teaching undergraduate and/or graduate design studios, lecture courses, and/or seminars in architecture and construction technology, and a clear research agenda demonstrating disciplinary standards at the rank of assistant professor. Demonstrated commitment to city life and the fundamental principles of a public institution of higher education with a highly diverse student body. Collaborative and team-oriented spirit; experience with design-build is preferred. Compensation
Salary Range: $76,937 - $109,025 CUNY offers faculty a competitive compensation and benefits package covering health insurance, pension and retirement benefits, paid parental leave, and savings programs.
