About the Department/College The Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) Program at NAU is housed within the Department of Physical Therapy and Athletic Training in the College of Health and Human Services (CHHS). The DPT Program offers one hybrid and two residential DPT programs—one at the Phoenix Bioscience Core (PBC) and the other on the Flagstaff Mountain campus.
As part of NAU's New Economy Initiative, the DPT Program collaborates with community, clinical, and academic partners to increase access to physical therapy education and prepare a workforce for the evolving healthcare landscape.
Position Overview The NAU DPT Program operates under a Competency and Entrustment-Based Education (CEBE) model, integrating learning outcomes and assessments across didactic and clinical education. The program seeks a highly motivated faculty member who embraces the CEBE paradigm and can leverage technology to enhance health professions education. Applications are welcome from candidates with expertise across all primary areas of physical therapy practice.
Responsibilities
Design, deliver, and assess engaging, evidence-based course content within a CEBE framework
Participate in program assessment, accreditation activities, and continuous quality improvement processes
Attend program, department, college, and university meetings and serve on assigned committees
Engage in institutional and professional service
Develop a scholarly agenda
Remain current with professional advancements and integrate relevant developments into teaching and scholarship
Support and promote the mission and vision of the institution and the physical therapy department
This is a 12-month, tenure-track faculty position located in our residential Flagstaff DPT program at the Flagstaff Mountain campus.
Minimum Qualifications For Assistant Professor:
Eligible for licensure as a physical therapist in Arizona
Academic doctoral degree (PhD, EdD, DSc) from an accredited institution in a field related to physical therapy
Minimum of three years of full-time post-licensure clinical practice experience
Contemporary expertise reflecting current physical therapist practice and healthcare systems
Defined area of scholarship
For Associate Professor:
Eligible for licensure as a physical therapist in Arizona
Academic doctoral degree (PhD, EdD, DSc) from an accredited institution in a field related to physical therapy
Minimum of three years of full-time post-licensure clinical practice experience
Minimum of five years of full-time academic experience within a physical therapist education program
Contemporary expertise reflecting current physical therapist practice and healthcare systems
Defined area of scholarship with a record of dissemination
Service at the institution/program and professional levels
Previous or current academic appointment at rank, or academic record equivalent to an associate professor at NAU
Preferred Qualifications
Advanced clinical specialty certification
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Demonstrate contemporary knowledge and skills reflective of current physical therapist practice and healthcare systems
Utilize evidence-based practice and research methods
Assess and provide feedback to learners
Ability to coach learners
Use of technology in education
Collaboration with academic and/or clinical colleagues
Engage in continuous professional development
