Position Summary We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as an Office Assistant at NYU Langone South Shore Neurologic Associates - Patchogue.

Job Responsibilities

Performs other duties as assigned.

Provides reception assistance: greet patients, answer calls, direct requests to the appropriate individual, screen telephone callers professionally, take messages, and schedule routine appointments and follow-ups that do not require or have already been pre-authorized.

Refer all inquiries regarding pre-authorizations/certifications to the appropriate person; collect and complete patient-related documents; assist patients in enrolling in Patient Secure if necessary; confirm patient appointments daily and note in the system; maintain schedule to prevent gaps.

Responsible for patient check-in and check-out; gather demographic data and materials; obtain insurance information, verify eligibility electronically, capture photo, and request use of Patient Secure; update demographic information on subsequent visits; collect and obtain signatures on HIPAA, MSPQ, ABN, and other required documents; follow up to gather missing data as needed.

Collect co-pays and other balances; scan documents into the intake system; monitor intake work queue for timely completion.

May be responsible for pre-authorizations and certifications (excluding surgical procedures); ensure appropriate procedure and diagnosis coding is used and collaborate with physicians to ensure accuracy and completeness.

Assist patients with questions about insurance coverage and refer financial matters to the appropriate business office for guidance based on established criteria.

Maintain cooperative and professional relationships with physicians, nurses, and office/clinical staff; type routine materials accurately and in accordance with instructions.

Answer patient questions to ensure understanding and satisfaction; maintain confidentiality of privileged information.

Maintain and organize files; manage space and supplies; process documents and forms; ensure proper routing and signatures; maintain copies for files and notify supervisor of supply shortages.

May assist, guide, and/or train staff with intake-related duties.

Minimum Qualifications High School diploma or equivalent required. Excellent organizational, interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills; strong customer service orientation; ability to multitask and thrive in a team environment. Proficiency with Microsoft Office, database and internet applications. Light, accurate keyboarding skills.

Preferred Qualifications 6 months of physician practice office experience. Knowledge of medical terminology and EPIC Ambulatory; familiarity with physician practice workflows.

Salary Transparency NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with New York state law on salary transparency. The salary range for the role is $54,165.00 annually. Actual salaries depend on factors such as experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. This range does not include bonuses, differential pay, or other compensation.
