Duties And Responsibilities
As an Administrative Hearing Officer I, you will conduct administrative review hearings under oath to make determinations for possible reinstatement of driver licenses in accordance with Florida Statutes and FLHSMV policies and procedures. This level of hearing officer traditionally handles the more basic types of administrative hearings, to include review waiver hearings, expedited reviews, and restricted license (hardship) hearings of lesser complexity. On occasion, additional types of hearings may be conducted. Duties include, but are not limited to: managing a complex caseload subject to strict deadlines; preparing and maintaining case files; researching case backgrounds; reviewing and evaluating testimony and evidence; analyzing information from various sources to make sound decisions; writing and issuing final orders and documenting decisions and outcomes of hearings. Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
Value professionalism and customer service – conduct hearings professionally and impartially; maintain high standards and remain calm and courteous when dealing with customers. Strong communication and active listening skills – express ideas clearly and convey complex or detailed information to customers with varying levels of understanding of the administrative hearing process. Attention to detail, organization and prioritization – thorough in accomplishing tasks and able to plan and organize time and resources to meet deadlines and statutory requirements. Ability to analyze and comprehend a variety of legal and non-legal information to aid in making sound, well-informed decisions. This includes review of driver history records, investigation reports, FLHSMV policies and procedures, administrative rules, and Florida Statutes. Maintain discretion and integrity – handle sensitive information and maintain confidentiality. Proficiency with technology applications such as Microsoft Office and ability to learn new software. Preferred Qualifications
Preference will be given to candidates with the following: Experience analyzing and interpreting information from different sources to make decisions; preference for those with experience interpreting Florida Statutes. Experience preparing written correspondence and reports. Experience creating and maintaining case files/document filing systems. Experience in customer service handling questions or complaints. Experience working in a legal office setting. Job Related Requirements
The position is subject to a Level 2 background check, along with CJIS clearance, including fingerprint-based checks of the FBI, as a condition of employment pursuant to Florida Statutes. CJIS clearance means access to all criminal and juvenile delinquency records, including sealed/expunged records. High School Diploma or GED equivalent. Incumbent must have and maintain a valid driver’s license in good standing; driver’s license history will be reviewed. Occasional overnight travel may be required. May be required to lift boxes weighing up to 30 pounds. General Information

Applicants considered for employment will be fingerprinted for a background investigation; FBI NGI biometrics will be retained and may be compared against new submissions.
