Under the supervision of the Radiologist and according to established procedures, operates diagnostic X-ray equipment to obtain diagnostic films according to Radiologist specifications. Performs diagnostic procedures including fluoroscopy and invasive exams as required, portable imaging in NICU, Pedi, OR, ICU, ER; outpatient X-rays. May perform mobile and surgical procedures in the surgical suites and patient rooms. Fluoroscopic units used during specialized procedures for diagnosis and treatment planning. Responds to emergency situations (contrast reactions and medical emergencies) according to departmental and hospital policy. Makes sound clinical judgement in emergencies. May float to other Baystate Health locations as needed to support patient care and staffing.

Job Responsibilities

Demonstrates excellent customer service through positive patient experience; promotes positive inter/intradepartmental communications and relationships; maintains confidentiality. Demonstrates knowledge and proficiency in the use of required imaging equipment in area of specialty. Demonstrates proficiencies with CR, DR, PACs and applicable modality-specific equipment. Properly identifies patient information using two patient identifiers and complies with National Patient Safety Goals standards and ARRT Code of Ethics. Performs procedures including routine, specialized, emergency and urgent imaging procedures; provides accurate, high quality exams. Maintains operational communication with Supervisors/Managers; follows through with assigned tasks. Works as a member of the health care team including physicians, nurses and other health care professionals in diagnostic testing. Operates and maintains exam room and equipment; evaluates equipment problems and initiates service or repair as needed; performs quality checks and keeps rooms stocked and clean; disposes of waste properly. Recognizes examination findings requiring immediate clinical response and notifies the radiologist; ensures timely transfer of images to PACS. Ensures ongoing compliance with JC, MQSA, ACR regulatory and DPH/CMS requirements; participates in QA activities. Performs accurate and high-quality exams with correct technique, positioning and visualization; instructs patients to maximize diagnostic yield. Maintains current knowledge and skills to care for pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients. Presents self professionally to patients and customers at all times. Attends in-service meetings and training events to enhance clinical skills; communicates suggestions for improvements to supervisor. Accurately inputs data into modality-specific computer applications and systems. Assists in training of technologists, residents and students; demonstrates willingness to learn new procedures. Maintains strict safety standards to protect patients, staff and visitors; keeps environment hazard-free. Uses time effectively by coordinating patients and procedures to maximize productivity. Assists the radiologist in a wide range of sterile procedures as dictated by modality. Follows radiation safety procedures for patients, staff and self; wears radiation monitoring device as required. Must be able to work independently in all areas. Minimum Requirements

MA RT license and ARRT Registry Basic Life Support – American Heart Association Preferred Work Experience
