To educate students in the Diesel Heavy Equipment Technology Program and to participate in departmental and/or institutional activities that support the mission of the college. This position shall report to the Department Chair of the Industry and Transportation Department at WMCC. ACCOUNTABILITIES : Teaches program-related courses in a classroom, online, and/or laboratory setting in the Diesel Heavy Equipment Technology program. Such courses include Hydraulics I, Hydraulics II, Failure Analysis, Heavy Duty Chassis Brake and Climate Control Systems, and other courses as assigned. Develops instructional materials that integrate theory with applications, observe program and institutional accreditation standards, clearly outline course goals and requirements, comply with established course content, and respond to diverse academic needs. Supervises student learning activities and academic progress and maintains accurate records of student progress and accomplishments. Consults with and interprets these to students and maintains accessibility and availability to assist students with their learning needs. Observes all academic policies and procedures and institutional rules and regulations. Participates in departmental activities and operations by assisting in the review and development of credit and non-credit programs and/or courses, maintaining contact with business and industry within the field of diesel heavy equipment technology, assisting in articulation initiatives, maintaining educational equipment and spaces, and requisitioning instructional equipment, supplies or classroom materials. Participates in college-sponsored recruitment and retention activities including admissions events, student orientations, award ceremonies, and advising student activity groups, as assigned. Remains current within the field of diesel heavy equipment technology through participation in professional associations and educational activities. Utilizes instructional and administrative technologies as required for teaching effectiveness and college operations/communication. Demonstrates ethical and professional behavior and serves on college or system committees, as assigned. Performs other duties as assigned. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS : Education:

Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university with major study in mechanical technology, automotive technology, engineering, business, education, or related discipline. Possession of a Bachelor’s degree in education requires an Associate’s degree in mechanical technology, automotive technology, engineering, or closely related discipline. Experience:

Three years of teaching experience in the diesel heavy equipment technology field or three years of business or industry experience directly related to the field of heavy equipment mechanics. OR Education: Associate’s degree from a regionally accredited college or technical school with major study in diesel heavy equipment technology, mechanical technology, automotive technology, engineering, business, general education, or related discipline. Experience: Five years of teaching experience in the diesel heavy equipment technology field or five years of business or industry experience directly related to the field of heavy equipment mechanics. RECOMMENDED WORK TRAITS:

Knowledge of teaching methods and materials, problems and subject matter as relates to course of instruction. Knowledge of the principles, methods, techniques, materials, tools and equipment used in postsecondary teaching. Ability to maintain comprehensive records of the progress and development of the individual student. Evidence of good professional attitude. Must be willing to maintain appearance appropriate to assigned duties and responsibilities as determined by the college appointing authority. License/Certification:

RECOMMENDED WORK TRAITS:

Thorough knowledge of teaching methods, the use of instructional materials and the organization of subject matter into effective teaching units in technology or other specialized programs. Complete knowledge of the principles, methods, techniques and equipment in subjects being taught. Ability to evaluate student progress and provide guidance to both students and instructors. Ability to supervise professional instructional staff and collaborate in development of programs, policies and procedures. Ability to work effectively with businesses and community organizations. Ability to originate and implement new programs and to improve existing programs. Coordinates and leads departmental activities and operations by meeting with executive and advisory groups to discuss needs, career developments, and the effectiveness of instruction, developing and evaluating credit and non-credit programs and/or courses, mentoring faculty in subject area competency and instructional expertise, actively cultivating and maintaining collaborative relationships with business and industry within the field of diesel heavy equipment technology, and engaging in outreach to educational partners for the development of articulation initiatives. Provides leadership in the planning, development, and implementation of college-sponsored recruitment and retention activities including career and job fairs, student orientations, registrations, award ceremonies, and/or advising student activity groups, as assigned. Engages in professional activities related to diesel heavy equipment technology that partner the college with the wider community by serving on college or system teams, or participating in community-sponsored events, as assigned. Remains technologically and pedagogically current within the field of diesel heavy equipment technology through participation in relevant professional associations and educational and training activities. Utilizes appropriate instructional and administrative technologies as required for teaching effectiveness and college operations/communication. Observes all academic policies and procedures and institutional rules and regulations and demonstrates ethical and professional behavior. Serves on college or system committees, as assigned. Eight years of teaching experience in the diesel heavy equipment technology field or eight years of business or industry experience directly related to the field of heavy equipment mechanics. RECOMMENDED WORK TRAITS:
