INSTRUCTOR OR ASSISTANT PROFESSOR, MATHEMATICS
Faculty in this full-time tenure track position will teach a minimum of 5 courses per regular semester at varied times and/or locations. Teaching assignments may range from developmental courses, college credit courses, online courses, and/or dual-credit/early college classes. Course assignments may be split between Del Mar College campuses and/or Independent School Districts, which may require some travel.
Mathematics faculty are required to work with students of varied backgrounds, demonstrate skill, knowledge, and abilities in the teaching discipline, and continuously advance the quality of instruction. They must maintain professional standards of competence and develop appropriate professional relationships with students, colleagues, and the community. All fundamental responsibilities for faculty, as outlined in Del Mar College policy, must be met.
Required Job Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
Ability to utilize a variety of teaching styles and methods to accommodate various learning styles of students.
Instructional technology skills, including computers, internet resources, and appropriate media in instruction.
Ability to work varying hours, travel to multiple centers and campuses, and local ISDs.
Ability to plan course instruction based upon the approved syllabus/outline to insure course content and objectives are met.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Detail oriented with excellent time-management skills.
Ability to build successful relationships with student populations.
Teaching and communication with students of varied multicultural backgrounds.
Ability to contribute to the overall mission of the College.
Minimum Qualifications Master’s degree in Mathematics (not Math Education) or a Master’s degree in a math-related field with a minimum of 18 graduate hours in mathematics (not math education).
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s or Ph.D. in pure Mathematics.
At least two (2) years of college level teaching experience.
Experience teaching Statistics, Discrete Mathematics, the Calculus Sequence, Differential Equations, and other upper level mathematics courses.
Strong academic achievement in mathematics.
Experience using learning management systems such as Canvas or Blackboard.
Experience using interactive educational systems such as MyMathLab or WebAssign.
Strong work ethic and a teaching philosophy.
Knowledge of and commitment to teaching strategies and methods which enhance student success.

Job Duties
Provide students with a written and accessible course syllabus that follows the Course Syllabus Guidelines and facilitates a clear understanding of the content, goals, requirements, and expectations.
Cover course contents approved by the department and prepare students for subsequent courses.
Develop and use a variety of teaching styles, methods and materials to accommodate the diverse backgrounds of students.
Maintain a classroom environment that promotes teaching and learning.
Hold scheduled, posted office hours of at least one (1) hour daily.
Evaluate students to measure progress toward achievement of stated course outcomes within the College grading procedures.
Assist in academic advising of declared majors.
Review, evaluate, and revise assessments of program and institutional student learning outcomes.
Review, evaluate, recommend, and effectively use student learning materials.
Develop and maintain professional relationships with students, colleagues, and the community.
Work collaboratively with faculty and staff.
Assist with marketing programs and recruiting students.
Serve on committees.
Accept special assignments occasionally.
Participate in scheduled institutional activities, including convocation and graduation ceremonies.
Participate in department, divisional, and College meetings.
Participate in activities required to maintain accreditation standards.
Participate in the College planning process for goals, objectives, and budget priorities.
Participate in community activities that promote the mission of the College.
Participate in the self-evaluation process.
Establish goals and objectives including personal and professional development plans in consultation with the Department Chair.
Meet professional assignments in accordance with the College calendar.
Other duties as assigned.
