Safety Manager – HVAC (Commercial Construction & Service)
to lead our EHS program across the enterprise. Reporting to the
CFO
and partnering closely with
HR and Operations , you’ll build a proactive, job-site-ready safety culture tailored to HVAC construction and service. Routine travel to any associated job sites and affiliated locations (primarily Illinois) is required. What You’ll Do
As Safety Manager, you’ll be a visible coach in the field while you standardize programs company-wide. Spend the majority of time in the field—job sites, shops, and service calls—to observe work, identify risks, and reinforce safe behaviors Conduct daily safety walks, site inspections, and JHAs/JSAs with foremen, technicians, and PMs; ensure pre-task planning for critical activities Design and improve the Safety Management System (SMS), SOPs, and job-site controls across all MechanAir entities and affiliated operations Develop HVAC-specific protocols and tools (e.g., fall protection & elevated work, crane/rigging & lift plans, LOTO, confined space, refrigerant handling & environmental controls) Build and maintain a practical Safety Manual and Field Handbook that reflect real job-site practices Lead hands-on training (ladder safety, PPE, equipment operation, lift certification) and new-hire safety orientations; track certifications and fit-testing Lead incident/near-miss investigations (root cause, CAPA), facilitate post-incident debriefs, and share lessons learned cross-entity Maintain compliance with OSHA 1910/1926, EPA, DOT/FMCSA, and customer requirements; keep logs, training records, inspections, and SDSs current Interface with GCs/clients/insurers on site safety expectations and documentation Partner with HR/Finance on workers’ comp reporting, loss-run analysis, and modified duty/RTW coordination Build dashboards for TRIR, DART, near-misses, audits, and training compliance; brief the CFO and leadership Pilot simple tech (mobile inspections, checklists, sensors) to streamline reporting and visibility What You Bring
(Minimum Qualifications — meet ONE path) Path A:
Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health & Safety (or closely related) + 3 years of full-time construction safety experience OR Path B:
Board-certified safety credential (CSP, CIH, ASP, or CHST) + 5 years of full-time construction safety experience OR Path C:
OSHA 500 certification + 6 years of full-time construction safety experience Additional Skills & Requirements (for all candidates):
Working mastery of OSHA 1910/1926 with proven job-site application in HVAC/mechanical construction & service Demonstrated investigation/CAPA skills (e.g., 5 Whys, fishbone) and strong field presence to coach techs, foremen, and PMs Data fluency (Excel/Sheets; mobile inspection/audit tools; dashboarding/reporting) Valid driver’s license
and ability to meet routine travel to any associated job sites and affiliated locations (primarily IL), with occasional overnights OSHA 30 (Construction) and First Aid/CPR preferred on hire (or ability to obtain within 60–90 days) Bonus Points:
Experience with crane/rigging oversight, fleet/DOT/FMCSA, and union + non-union environments Bilingual (English/Spanish) Compensation & Benefits
Salary Range:
$100,000 – $125,000 base (based on experience and qualifications) Bonus Eligibility:
