Northrop Grumman Space Systems—Launch and Missile Defense Systems offers an exciting career opportunity for a Sr Principal Engineer Systems – Sys Engr-Interface Engineer (25-511) to join our team of qualified and diverse individuals. This position, based in Colorado Springs, CO, or Huntsville, AL, plays a critical role in supporting the U.S. President, Secretary of Defense, and combatant commanders at strategic, regional, and operational levels. Relocation assistance is not available for this position, and this role is on-site with no remote options. Position Overview: The Command and Control, Battle Management, and Communications (C2BMC) program serves as the central element of the Missile Defense System. It is a crucial operational system that enables the U.S. president, the secretary of defense, and combatant commanders at strategic, regional, and operational levels to systematically plan ballistic missile defense operations, monitor battle progress, and dynamically manage networked sensors and weapon systems to achieve global and regional mission goals. C2BMC supports a layered missile defense capability that offers an optimized response to threats of all ranges at every phase of flight. It acts as a force multiplier by utilizing networked, integrated, and synchronized operations on a global and regional scale, along with autonomous sensor and weapon systems, to enhance performance. Additionally, C2BMC is a key component of all ground and flight tests, which validate and demonstrate the current and future capabilities of the missile defense system. The Interface Engineer will lead the development and design of Interface Control Documents (ICDs) and Interface Design Documents (IDDs). They will establish new interfaces between external elements, such as sensors, and other Command and Control Systems. The Engineer will ensure that the ICDs and IDDs meet the program's standards. Additionally, the Engineer is expected to develop various behavioral diagrams to understand and document requirements. This position will be part of the C2BMC Systems Engineering Team within SEIT. An Interface Engineer is a Systems Engineer and may be called upon to support non-interface systems engineering activities. Salary range in Huntsville: $131,100 - $196,700 Salary range in Colorado Springs: $124,900 - $187,300 Essential Functions

Developing, updating, and maintaining multiple ICDs and IDDs

Attend interface working group meetings with the external MDA customer and representatives of the assigned external element engineering organization, as well as support program integration and testing efforts for the related interface

Assist other Interface Engineers in developing ICDs for different Missile Defense Systems Elements, supporting requirements engineering, use case development, and logical architecture modeling tasks as prioritized by the SE department

Support leadership (both internal and external), developers, and testers by addressing messages, interface rules (transmit, receive, processing), questions, and test findings

Strong written and verbal communication skills are crucial

Basic Qualifications

Please note your updated security clearance and IAT/relevant certifications on your resume, if applicable. A Bachelor's Degree in a

STEM

field, such as Systems Engineering, Software Engineering, Mathematics, or Physics, from an accredited university is preferred, along with 8 years of experience; or a Master's degree (preferred) in a

STEM -related discipline with 6 years of experience; or a PhD in a related field with 4 years of experience.

Applicants must have a current, active in-scope DoD-issued

Secret

security clearance at the time of application, as this is essential to start

Ability and willingness to travel up to 10% to support business needs

Must have a solid understanding of Systems Engineering processes and principles

Proven track record of applying concepts to deliver effective product solutions

Experience in requirements elicitation, especially using behavior diagrams to analyze and decompose requirements

Must demonstrate expertise in interface engineering, including authoring ICDs and IDDs that cover:

Message definitions, processing rules, and formatting (e.g.,

XML

,

VMF )

Physical and network specifications and models (including the

ISO/OSI model )

Network topologies, devices, and protocols (e.g.,

TCP/IP

,

UDP )

Preferred Qualifications

A master's Degree

in STEM Systems Engineering is preferred

Certification:

INCOSE Certified Systems Engineering Professional (CSEP) Certification

Certification:

Object Management Group Certified Systems Modeling Professional - Model Builder Fundamental (OCSMP - MBF)

Prior work with

IBM Rational DOORS

(or similar requirements management tools) is highly preferred

The ideal candidate will have at least eight years of professional experience in Systems Engineering or a related field and demonstrate extensive expertise in developing

ICDs

and

IDDs

that fully adhere to DIDs and DoD standards:

Proven ability to work effectively within an experienced systems engineering team, delivering high-quality products and artifacts in strict accordance with the program’s Systems Engineering Management Plan (

SEMP

) and related processes.

Extensive experience in authoring Missile Defense System ICDs and IDDs is highly preferred

Strong background in developing detailed Command and Control (C2) system ICDs and IDDs is highly preferred

Strong knowledge of computer programming principles, facilitating clear communication with software development teams and understanding implementation limitations

Primary Level Salary Range: $124,900.00 - $196,700.00 The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
