JOB DESCRIPTION
The Mechanical Inspector is responsible for ensuring that all mechanical work on a wind project is completed to project specifications, OEM requirements, and quality standards. This includes inspecting the installation of wind turbine components—such as towers, nacelles, rotors, and hub assemblies—verifying torque and tension compliance, and overseeing final mechanical completion activities. The Mechanical Inspector plays a key role in promoting safety, documenting quality performance, and supporting turnover to commissioning. Key Responsibilities: Inspection & Quality Control: · Perform inspections of mechanical installations throughout various stages, including tower sections, yaw systems, pitch mechanisms, and rotor assemblies. · Verify correct application of torquing and tensioning procedures per OEM and project standards. · Ensure proper alignment, fit-up, and assembly of major components during turbine erection. · Review and validate work against mechanical drawings, installation manuals, and checklists. · Support the creation and closeout of mechanical punch lists and final mechanical completion documentation. Testing & Verification: · Witness and document mechanical function checks and pre-commissioning tests. · Ensure compliance with tolerances, bolt loads, lubrication specs, and proper use of calibrated tools. · Identify non-conformances and support corrective action resolution with the construction team and OEM. · Maintain detailed inspection records and ensure traceability of quality documentation. Safety & Compliance: · Perform regular safety observations on-site and submit reports using Econoline or equivalent system. · Ensure compliance with OSHA, site-specific safety plans, and company policies. · Participate in incident investigations and implement preventative measures where required. · Verify that mechanical work areas maintain safe and orderly conditions. Coordination & Communication: · Work closely with turbine OEMs, site supervisors, and subcontractors to verify compliance and resolve issues. · Participate in daily coordination meetings and report inspection status and quality concerns. · Provide technical feedback to field teams to support continuous improvement. Training & Policy Adherence: · Attend and participate in required corporate training programs. · Ensure personal and team adherence to all company policies and procedures. · Promote quality, safety, and accountability in the field. · Skills: o Proficient in interpreting mechanical drawings, torque/tension charts, and OEM manuals. o Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality assurance. o Experience using inspection tools, calibrated torque/tension equipment, and documentation systems. o Proficient in Microsoft Office and quality tracking software.
