Payroll Specialist

Weston Public Schools (MA) The Payroll Specialist is responsible for the accurate and timely preparation, entry, and submission of the school payroll. This position will collaborate with the School Business Office, Department of Human Resources, and Weston Town Hall. This is a full-time, 12-month position reporting to the Director of Finance. Position Overview The Weston Public Schools enrolls approximately 1,960 students in pre-kindergarten through grade 12. The school district includes a high school for grades 9-12, a middle school for grades 6-8, an upper elementary school for grades 4-5, and two lower elementary schools for pre-kindergarten through grade 3. Key Responsibilities Embrace the diversity of the Weston Public Schools by fostering an environment of respect and inclusion Prepare all payrolls for review by the Director of Finance Maintain payroll records for all School Department personnel in compliance with the Secretary of State's record retention schedule Prepare reports and statistical analysis of payroll, hiring, and personnel data Prepare salary expenditure projections Process timesheets for non-professional staff Notify the Town of authorized deductions for union dues, credit union, and all other personnel changes Monthly MTRS reconciliation 403B contact for yearly reports Maintain employee accrual balances Complete employment verification requests Assist with year-end reporting Support staff with completing retirement calculations and income verifications Conduct Family Medical Leave Act payroll calculations Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Finance Desired Qualifications Bachelor's degree preferred Experience and demonstrated knowledge of municipal bookkeeping, accounting, and payroll procedures Proficiency with Excel and payroll software (e.g., Harpers, MUNIS) Conscientious, with the ability to plan, organize, and problem solve Strong written and verbal communication skills Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills Competent with technology, including Microsoft Office and Google Suite Compensation and Professional Growth The salary range for this position is $60,000 - $80,000 per year. Additionally, Weston offers a comprehensive benefits package including subsidized health insurance and participation in the Middlesex County Retirement System.
