Job summary We are seeking a skilled HR Generalist to join our Human Resources team. The Generalist will be responsible for completing a variety of tasks to support the daily operations of the HR department, including but not limited to, provide administrative support to the department, serve as back-up to payroll, compare HR laws to current policies and procedures, draft templates for HR documents, run analytics reports and work with other members of the department to oversee the hiring, onboarding, and separation process for settlement employees.
Essential duties and responsibilities
Perform a variety of HR tasks related to benefits, employee relations, labor relations, performance management,
compensation, payroll, training, and development
Assist with onboarding and offboarding processes, including facilitating new hire onboarding and completion of employment documents (e.g., I-9, tax forms, union enrollment card), entering new hire info into HRIS, and taking new hire picture ID
Maintain and update electronic employment records along with information in the HRIS, including salary changes, titles, status updates, and scan paperwork into the HR drive
Manage and perform onboarding and offboarding processes, including conducting new hire 30-day check-in and exit interviews, and separation letters
Attend various on-site events such as recruiting, career fairs, or job fairs as assigned
Serve as a friendly and knowledgeable point of contact for employee questions related to HR policies, benefits, and programs
Support the HR team in investigating and documenting complaints, reports, or other misconduct, ensuring timely, fair, and legally compliant resolution
Assist in implementing disciplinary actions, including verbal/written warnings and performance improvement plans (PIPs), and maintain documentation for audit readiness
Ensure compliance with federal, multiple state, and local employment laws, regulations, and best practices; review policies and practices to maintain legal compliance
Contribute ideas to improve HR processes and enhance the employee experience
Travel to settlement work sites and check in with staff and management as needed
Familiarity with labor relations; understand the different labor unions and contracts
Run various analytics reports for department team members or the leadership team
Sort HR incoming/outgoing mail and forward mail to appropriate team members
Monitor HR inbox and other duties as assigned
Education, experience, and skills requirements
Associate’s degree in human resources, Business Administration, or a related field
2+ years of experience in an HR Generalist role, with a strong focus on talent acquisition and compliance
Proficiency in HRIS (e.g., ADP) and MS Office Suite
Strong understanding of employment laws, regulations, and HR best practices
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
High-level customer service skills and a solutions-oriented approach
Excellent organizational skills with high attention to detail
Proven ability to manage time effectively and meet deadlines
Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and take initiative
High level of professionalism, integrity, and ability to maintain confidentiality
HR certification and/or payroll experience is a plus
