Overview
The Marketing and Strategic Communications Department is responsible for the overall image management and all internal and external communications and marketing activities for The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center and associated departments, clinics and research facilities. The Director for Executive Communications leads, provides oversight for, and executes communications strategies for the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center – Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital and Richard J. Solove Research Institute (OSUCCC – James). The Director and team convey the vision, expertise, culture, services, successes and progress of the OSUCCC – James, aligning CEO communications with broader medical center and university messages and initiatives. Responsibilities
Strategy Development
– Define the executive communications strategy for the Office of the CEO in collaboration with senior leaders and stakeholders; ensure alignment with broader organizational messages and initiatives; promote the OSUCCC – James reputation. Content Planning and Production
– Advise, brainstorm, plan and develop content for the CEO and OSUCCC – James national reputation and thought leadership, including complex projects (e.g., book chapters, editorials, high-level speeches/presentations); develop executive communications (internal and external), mass media advertising, marketing materials, publications, websites, newsletters, social media, and other digital channels. Editorial Management
– Lead all stages of content planning and preparation; develop editorial calendars; research, interview, write, review, proofread and edit content to fit editorial style and brand guidelines; coordinate reviews by leadership. Content Distribution Coordination
– Advise on distribution plans; manage publishing rights for OSUCCC – James digital properties. Presentation Development
– Draft presentations for the CEO for internal and external engagements (scientific meetings, board meetings, events). Content Work-Team Leadership
– Lead ad hoc teams for content improvement; coordinate research, meetings, proposals and project execution with internal and external contributors. Effectiveness Measurement
– Help set benchmarks for CEO’s national reputation and thought leadership content; analyze data and recommend improvements; strive for continuous improvement. Supervision
– Oversee the OSUCCC – James executive communications team to meet deadlines. Other
– Assist in planning related to CEO and OSUCCC – James content; act as liaison to faculty, staff and administration regarding published material. Qualifications
Superior written and visual storytelling abilities; ability to produce high-quality content on quick deadlines. Experience coordinating content across multiple channels and managing editorial processes from concept to distribution. Ability to lead cross-functional teams including faculty, staff, designers, photographers, videographers, web developers and UX designers, both in-house and freelance. Strong project management and collaboration skills; ability to align CEO communications with broader organizational messages. Position Details

The Director reports to the Chief Communications and Marketing Officer for The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, with a dotted reporting line to the Chief of Staff of the OSUCCC – James.
