Community Service Specialist - University Police
Location: San Francisco Overview
The Community Service Specialist serves as a visible security presence on campus, and within its buildings as assigned. Responsibilities include patrolling campus on foot, bike or vehicle to protect the campus community and visitors, providing public safety support, enforcing campus ordinances and parking regulations, and issuing citations as appropriate. The incumbent also provides information to the University Police Department (UPD) regarding unusual occurrences and activities on and around campus. Responsibilities
Patrol campus on foot, bike or vehicle to protect the campus community and visitors from hazards such as fire, theft, vandalism, trespassing and other crimes. Assist in enforcing campus rules and regulations; report hazardous conditions; open/secure campus facilities; coordinate and test campus alarm systems. Provide support to UPD, including back-up dispatch support, managing property and evidence, maintaining records, and supporting crime prevention programs. Participate in emergency response teams; respond to emergencies; take incident/accident reports as needed. Enforce parking rules and regulations; issue and sell parking permits; patrol parking areas and issue citations; appear in court for parking-related matters; direct traffic during peak times and events. Assist in campus event logistics and provide escort and citizen assistance as needed. Other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications
High school level reading and writing abilities and possession of a California Driver's License. Successful completion of a background check may be required; ability to attend POST programs related to public safety support and dispatch activities. Knowledge of and ability to learn public safety equipment and systems; three to six months of related experience typically meets entry qualifications. Preferred Qualifications
At least 1 year of experience as a security officer. Dependable, trustworthy, and willing to respond to work on call if needed. Uniform maintenance: polished, clean, and neat. Knowledge of campus operating and emergency procedures. Core Competencies

Must be able to work indoors and/or outdoors in a police environment. May be required to work evenings and/or weekends. Ability to stand/walk long periods, climb stairs, lift, and assist officers.
