Overview
Typical month: 90% time testing new firmware on modems (the devices that go into the customers homes to provide internet or voice service) and 10% time on deployments, scheduled through tools that route work to be performed. The role includes testing the code on the device, with a focus on firmware testing, and some device testing as part of the responsibilities. The role involves testing to ensure the modem operates as expected in production. This includes validating firmware upgrade/downgrade behavior, validating device performance (speeds, etc.), ensuring the device adheres to DHCP specifications, verifying bugs fixed in previous firmware versions, and validating new features. When issues are found, the team partners with vendors to determine root causes and validate fixes. Quality assurance activities include troubleshooting, running tests in production environments, and iterating on tests to verify fixes. The QA process involves developing new tests, executing them, documenting results, and collaborating with software developers to address defects. After patches are applied, tests are re-run to ensure the defect is resolved and no new issues are introduced. Responsibilities
Test and validate modem firmware and device performance in production and lab environments. Execute and document test plans, report defects, and collaborate with vendors and internal teams to identify root causes. Validate firmware upgrade/downgrade behavior and adherence to DHCP, DNS, and other network protocols. Troubleshoot issues found in testing and coordinate fixes and verification with development teams. Assist in verifying new features and ensure regression coverage through test execution. Contribute to test automation and manage testing tools, reporting results, and driving process improvement. Qualifications
