Overview

SUBSTANCE USE DISORDER (SUD) COUNSELOR Under general supervision and working as part of the CCBHC Team, the SUD Counselor will provide integrated dual disorder treatment to clients who have substance use concerns. The SUD Counselor is responsible for providing confidential counseling, education, and support to individuals and families experiencing substance use disorders, and for promoting healthy lifestyles and choices to individuals, families, and the community. Provide a range of prevention, assessment, and intervention services. Provide training and consultation to team members on problems, assessments, and recommendations for clients. Use IDDT treatment and Motivational Interviewing techniques. Complete and maintain service documentation according to agency and regulatory standards. SUD services are a key part of The Centers/Circle Health mission to provide integrated care which also includes behavioral healthcare, primary care, pharmacy and wellness services. This position is in-person with hybrid possibilities, Monday-Friday from 8:00am-5:00pm, with some flexibility. Need to be able to work until 9:00pm once a week.

Job Qualifications

Requires a license through the Ohio Board of Counselor, Social Worker and Marriage & Family Therapist (CSWMFT) or Ohio Chemical Dependency Professional’s Board (LCDC-II, LSW, LPC or higher), with the appropriate level education required by the licensing board for the issued licensure and 3+ years’ experience in an SUD treatment setting.

Professional II - LCDC-II or LSW required, with a Bachelor’s degree as outlined by the Board.

Professional III - LCDC-III, LSW or LPC required, with a Master’s degree as outlined by the Board and 3+ years’ experience in an addictions treatment setting.

Professional IV - requires an independent license, with a Master’s degree as outlined by the Board and 3+ years’ experience in an addictions treatment setting.

Must possess a high degree of initiative, orientation toward process improvement, and demonstrated leadership qualities.

Must possess computer proficiency and proficiency working in an EMR.

Must understand and embrace a systems approach to service delivery as well as organizational mission, program philosophy, goals, and organizational values.

Must have experience in monitoring outcomes data and performance indicators.

Essential Job Duties & Responsibilities

Provide individual and group counseling to clients with substance use disorders using evidence-based practices.

Conduct comprehensive assessments, including substance use history, mental health screening, risk assessments, and treatment needs.

Develop, implement, and regularly update individualized treatment plans in collaboration with clients and multidisciplinary team members.

Facilitate psychoeducational and therapeutic groups focused on recovery, relapse prevention, coping skills, and related topics.

Coordinate care with stakeholders involved in client care.

Monitor client progress, document services, and maintain accurate, timely, and confidential clinical records in compliance with agency, state, and federal requirements (including HIPAA).

Provide crisis intervention and support in response to urgent client needs.

Educate clients and families on substance use disorders, treatment options, and recovery supports.

Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings.

Maintain current knowledge of best practices in SUD counseling, cultural competency, and co-occurring disorders.

Adhere to ethical standards of practice and comply with all regulatory and licensing requirements.
