The Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services (DPSCS) is seeking dedicated candidates to fill important roles within our department. Position Information GRADE: 20

LOCATION: Maryland Parole Commission, 6776 Reisterstown Road, Baltimore, Maryland 21215

Main Purpose of Job The main purpose of the position is to oversee the day-to-day operations of the Commission and to ensure that the agency's seven operational units function with maximum efficiency. This position is also responsible for the oversight of the agency's Managing for Results (MFR) initiatives and developing ongoing strategies to ensure that MFR goals and objectives are achieved. It coordinates with the Office of the Attorney General on matters pertaining to litigation and legal review/interpretation.

Responsibilities

As the lead administrator for the Maryland Parole Commission, oversee day-to-day operations for the seven units and ensure maximum efficiency. Oversee MFR initiatives and develop strategies to achieve goals. Coordinate with the Office of the Attorney General on litigation and legal review.

Assist the Chairperson with overall management of the Commission, including twenty employees; serve as designated Appointing Authority in the absence of Chairperson; monitor the agency budget; develop, articulate and disseminate policy; evaluate staffing needs and reassign personnel; set performance standards; review evaluations and apply progressive discipline as appropriate.

Meet with unit managers regularly to ensure goals are being achieved; review and update policies; assess productivity; train staff on new initiatives; implement new programs or procedures as needed.

Manage, direct, supervise and evaluate subordinate staff; guide unit managers and staff to maintain efficiency in operations.

Assist with development and implementation of programs and projects with sister agencies; collaborate with agency administrators on concerns and solutions.

Develop MFR goals and objectives; compile and evaluate MFR data and provide findings to the Departmental liaison.

Coordination of litigation with the Office of the Attorney General and seek legal advice on cases requiring resolution; prepare the agency's Annual Report; respond to inquiries from Maryland judiciary, OAG, State's Attorneys, and others regarding parole-related or case-specific issues.

Education:

Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university in Criminal Justice, Social Work, Sociology, Psychology or Political Science.

Experience:

Three (3) years’ experience working for Corrections or a Criminal Justice related agency with two (2) years supervising or managing others.

Desired or Preferred Qualifications The following qualifications are preferred, not required.

Possession of a Juris Doctorate degree

Experience with NCIC, OCMS and/or CJIS
