Our 23-Hour Crisis Stabilization Program serves individuals in acute behavioral health crises, offering rapid access to assessment, de-escalation, stabilization services, and care coordination to prevent psychiatric hospitalization or emergency room use.
Position Summary
The Qualified Mental Health Professional (QMHP) will provide direct crisis stabilization and support services in a 23-hour, short-term observation setting. This role includes conducting assessments, safety planning, crisis counseling, and linking individuals to community-based mental health services. The QMHP will collaborate closely with the clinical team to ensure a trauma-informed, culturally competent, and rapid-response approach to care.
Compensation
The pay range for this position is between $24 and $35 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications. Quarterly bonuses are available based on productivity and performance.
Key Responsibilities
Conduct initial mental health screenings and crisis assessments under supervision of licensed clinicians.
Provide de-escalation, brief counseling, and stabilization interventions to individuals experiencing acute emotional distress or psychiatric crisis.
Develop and implement individualized crisis and safety plans.
Support coordination of emergency and outpatient care, transportation, housing, and follow-up services.
Document all services provided in compliance with DMAS, DBHDS, and agency standards.
Participate in 24/7 coverage rotation, which may include night shifts, weekends, and holidays.
Work collaboratively with emergency departments, CSBs, mobile crisis teams, and law enforcement, as appropriate.
Maintain professional boundaries, ethical standards, and cultural sensitivity at all times.
Qualifications
Bachelors degree in Psychology, Social Work, Counseling, or Human Services (Required)
Must meet qualifications as a QMHP-A or QMHP-Trainee as defined by the Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services (DBHDS)
Minimum of 1 year of experience in crisis, emergency services, or behavioral health setting (Preferred)
Strong skills in clinical documentation, communication, and rapid assessment
Ability to remain calm in high-stress and unpredictable situations
Valid Virginia drivers license and reliable transportation
Willingness to work flexible and rotating schedules, including evenings and weekends
Preferred Competencies
Crisis prevention and intervention training (e.g., CPI, Mandt)
Trauma-informed care practices
Familiarity with Medicaid documentation standards
Experience with Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems
Bilingual or multilingual skills (preferred but not required)
