Overview
Armed Security Protective Officers (SPOs) perform tasks in accordance with the duties outlined in the Post Orders prepared by the Office of Safety and Security for all shifts on each post. This role involves visual deterrence, policy adherence, access control, screening, traffic and visitor processing, patrols, and emergency response.
Responsibilities
Provide visual deterrence against wrongful acts toward our client’s employees, customers, and property
Understand and execute company policies and post orders
Access Control Package Screening (X-Ray Machine)
Personnel screening (Hand Wands / Magnetometers)
Traffic control and visitor processing
Vehicle inspection
Communications and dispatching
Patrol areas inside and outside of the facility
Emergency and event response
Stand, walk, sit, squat, stretch, and bend as required during the workday
Maintain correct uniform, equipment, and grooming
Qualifications
Must be eligible to work in the United States and willing to undergo a full background and personal reference check, in accordance with local law/regulations
Capable of making rational and reasonable decisions during tense, uncertain, rapidly evolving situations
Minimum of three (3) years of experience in law enforcement, military police, or professional correctional officer experience
High school diploma or equivalency; collegiate coursework or an AA/AS degree preferred
Current SPO (Armed) license issued by the District of Columbia Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) Security Officers Management Branch (SOMB)
Holding a current 9mm caliber semiautomatic pistol with a valid card signed and dated by a certified firearm instructor
Certified to carry pepper spray (Oleoresin Capsicum)
Current CPR/First Aid card issued by American Red Cross or equivalent
Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills
Physical Demands
Physically able to perform tasks related to assigned duties
Frequent and prolonged walking, standing, sitting, and occasional stooping; outdoor work as required
May be required to subdue violent or potentially violent individuals or intervene in a crisis

Associates Degree (preferred)
DC Armed SPO certification
CPR/American Red Cross certification
Handcuffing Tactics and Instruction
Firearms Qualification
MEB Expandable Baton
