Overview
Our client, a fast-growing construction company based in Tempe, Arizona, is seeking a Senior Accountant / Assistant Controller to manage daily financial operations and support the leadership team. This role is ideal for a confident, self-motivated professional who thrives in a dynamic, fast-paced environment and can independently handle a variety of accounting responsibilities with precision and professionalism. You will play a vital role in overseeing AR / AP, payroll, job costing, and general administrative functions. Oversee accounts receivable: customer invoicing, payment entry and bank deposits. Manage accounts payable: verify invoice pricing against quotes / purchase orders, process payments, and reconcile vendor accounts. Accurately process payroll for employees, ensuring compliance with regulations and deadlines. Balances subsidiary accounts by reconciling entries. Balances general ledger by preparing a trial balance; reconciling entries. Prepare, file, and reconcile sales tax returns for multiple jurisdictions. Collaborate with subcontractors on payment tracking, compliance documents, and contracts. Generate job costing reports and commission statements. Provide ad-hoc support and reporting for the executive team. Ensure compliance with GAAP, company policies, and regulatory standards. Maintain organized records and support historical financial data. Qualifications & Skills
5+ years of accounting experience (construction industry strongly preferred) Deep understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting Experience working with subcontractors and understanding of construction billing and financial reporting processes Able to prepare, review and understand a financial statement. Proficient experience in accounting software, Microsoft Office Suite; experience with Foundation accounting software is a plus Strong organizational and time management skills Self-motivated with the ability to work independently Detail-oriented with excellent written and verbal communication Ability to interact professionally and effectively with all levels of employees, vendors, clients, and stakeholders Ability to speak, read and write in the English language. Education and Experience
Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, or equivalent work experience Prior experience in a similar accounting or controller-supporting role Additional Details
