The Consumer Benefits Specialist provides assistance to consumers in determining eligibility for, accessing, and maintaining Medicaid benefits and entitlements. The role includes meeting with consumers to assist with SSI/SSDI program applications and follow-up, as well as making referrals to vendors for benefits assistance, initial applications, hearings, claims, and appeals.
The specialist also offers community referrals, representation during administrative law judge hearings, and support in benefit renewal processes for Medicaid programs such as QMB, MQMB, and various waivers. They make necessary social service referrals based on consumer needs, including food stamps, TANF, and Medicare prescription assistance. Additionally, the role involves serving as a presenter or designee during training sessions across programs and departments.
This position supports multiple locations including Bastrop, Fayette, and Lee, working closely with referral vendors as the primary contact.

Knowledge of Medicaid, Medicare, and Social Security applications. Experience working with persons with disabilities in healthcare or rehab settings. Strong computer and communication skills. Ability to work collaboratively to support benefits needs. Candidate should have SOAR certification or be willing to obtain it within 6 months. Must have a valid Texas driver’s license and maintain approved status. Preferred Qualifications: SOAR Certified, Texas Community Partner Application, and Case Assistance Certificates.
