Vacancy Announcement Faculty Tenure-Track Position Starting Fall 2026
Department Overview Cal Poly Humboldt is a Hispanic-Serving Institution committed to equity and inclusion. The Department of Social Work emphasizes work with Native American and rural communities, decolonizing mainstream practice, and fostering reciprocal relationships with tribal and community partners. The BASW program (accredited since 1945) and MSW program (accredited since 2004) serve students year‑round on campus and online. The department is part of the College of Professional Studies and includes approximately 385 students.
Professional Duties Teaching, research, scholarship, creative activity, and service to the university, profession, and community. Instructional assignments may include Generalist and Advanced Generalist curriculum with an emphasis on rural and Native American populations, building a student‑centered learning environment across the curriculum. During the probationary period, teaching load will be reduced by one course each semester to support research and scholarship required for retention and promotion.
Rank, Salary, and Benefits Assistant Professor rank. Annual salary range $74,652 – $158,688; anticipated starting salary $84,000. Cal Poly Humboldt offers an excellent benefit package (details available on request).
Minimum Qualifications
Earned doctorate in Social Work or related field, or an MSW from a CSWE‑accredited university with 10 years’ experience growing responsibilities in rural and tribal communities.
Record of training or experience in the field of Social Work.
Excellence or clear potential for university‑level teaching and creating a student‑centered learning environment.
Evidence of or potential for conducting and publishing original research in peer‑reviewed journals.
Documented experience engaging with Native American peoples, Latinx, Chicanx, or other marginalized communities through scholarship, teaching, or practice.
Experience teaching generalist Social Work courses using a variety of methodologies.
Familiarity with critical social work theories and scholarship centered on Native American knowledge and/or anti‑racism.
Commitment to engagement with tribal communities and knowledge.
Commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and student success in higher education.
Record or potential for involving students in research and scholarly activity.
Preferred Qualifications
Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) or license‑eligible.
Experience with rural communities.
Distance (online) and campus learning and teaching experience.
Experience in developing and assessing programs that advance equitable and inclusive learning communities.
Experience with CSWE accreditation.
Two (2) years post‑MSW work experience.
