Job Description Summary The laboratory associate role supports procedural and therapeutic services. Assists with bedside collection of fine needle aspiration biopsy specimens (FNA) and prepares glass slides from cytologic specimens for subsequent microscopic evaluation using a variety of techniques (direct smear, thin layer, cytospin, cell block). Performs multiple staining techniques, operates and maintains laboratory equipment, and confirms patient data at the time of specimen receiving to input into the LIS.

Responsibilities Performs moderate and high complexity testing under the general supervision of the Laboratory Manager. Performs routine laboratory testing, quality control testing, general and instrument maintenance, calls critical and questionable results to appropriate providers, and results using laboratory information systems. General troubleshooting of instrumentation and communication of technical information to appropriate persons.

Qualifications Education: Bachelor’s degree in chemical, physical, or biological sciences including 24 semester hours of science courses that include 6 semester hours of chemistry, 6 semester hours of biology, and 12 semester hours of any combination of chemical or biological sciences. Experience: None.
