Coordinator of Special Education

(COSE) [0.4 FTE Brighton High/0.6 FTE O'Bryant School of Math and Science] who is highly qualified and knowledgeable to join our community of teachers, learners, and leaders. Reports to: Principal/Head of School and Office of Special Education (OSE) Assistant Directors Responsibilities Support the improvement of student outcomes and strengthen family engagement as partners. Collaborate with the Principal/Head of School to: Create a respectful and engaging school environment for all students. Ensure students with disabilities participate in the general education environment per their IEPs. Provide or facilitate professional development for special education staff. Coordinate services for students with disabilities and students at risk. Serve as liaison to outside agencies providing services to students in schools without a Student Development Coordinator. Engage families in planning and problem-solving, and assist with school assignments. Support culturally competent practices at all levels. Collaborate on providing FAPE, LRE, and specialized instruction for students with disabilities, and differentiated instruction for all. Support special education teachers with research-based instructional and social-emotional practices. Assist with implementing the Code of Conduct for students with disabilities. Maintain and improve regulatory compliance. Manage referrals, chair team meetings, develop IEPs (including transition planning at age 14), secure parent signatures, and distribute IEPs. Support the chairing of annual review meetings when required. Chair team meetings for students in private placements returning to BPS. Chair Section 504 eligibility meetings and develop accommodation plans. Align student schedules with IEPs and 504 plans. Manage compliance activities related to assessments, notices, parent consents, reports, and record-keeping. Participate in dispute resolution, hearings, and mediation as needed. Engage in Medicaid reimbursement activities. Perform other duties as assigned by the principal or supervisor. Participate in organizational meetings and professional development. Core Competencies:

Qualifications - Required Valid MA DESE License in Special Education (Moderate or Severe Disabilities), School Social Worker/Adjustment Counselor, School Psychologist, or Speech-Language Pathologist. Knowledge of DESE Regulations, IDEA, and Section 504. Experience with IEPs, special education programs, collaboration, and parent relationships. Ability to meet BPS Standards of Effective Practice. Experience working collaboratively with administrators, providers, families, and students. Three years of successful urban school or human service experience. Strong problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills. Qualifications - Preferred Master’s Degree in Special Education or related field. Administrative/supervisory certification and experience. Urban special education teaching or related service experience. Experience with SEIMS. Fluency in BPS official languages (Spanish, Creole, Chinese, Vietnamese, Portuguese, Somali) is a plus. Terms:
