Piedmont Virginia Community College (PVCC) is a nonresidential two-year institution of higher education that serves Central Virginia - principally residents of the City of Charlottesville and the counties of Albemarle, Buckingham, Fluvanna, Greene, Louisa and Nelson. Our scenic campus is located in Albemarle County, Virginia. We are one of 23 community colleges in Virginia that comprise the Virginia Community College System (VCCS).

Position: Part-Time Fitness Room Supervisor (29 hours per week)

Supervisor: Senior Director, Student Success and Support

PVCC seeks an experienced part-time Fitness Room Supervisor to supervise and manage the PVCC Fitness Room during open fitness room hours. The supervisor is responsible for creating a safe, welcoming and service-oriented environment for all student, faculty, and staff who use the facility. The Fitness Room supervisor establishes and enforces rules and regulations that ensure safety and proper use of the facilities and instructs fitness room clients on the proper use of cardiovascular, strength, resistance, and free weight equipment.

The Fitness Room Supervisor trains and supports all staff who work in the fitness center, instructing them in safety and emergency procedures, maintenance and cleanliness of equipment, and assumption of risk procedures and protocol. The supervisor is responsible for scheduling flexible and convenient open hours around the physical education classes offered in the center and for marketing and advertising these hours to the college community.

The Fitness Room Supervisor is charged with constantly monitoring the condition of equipment, recommending and purchasing new equipment as needed, and reporting any defective equipment or safety issues immediately to the administration. In addition, the Supervisor manages the assignment of lockers and the locker room facility at the college.

The Supervisor works collaboratively to support faculty in addressing equipment needs and fitness room layout for class instruction. In addition, the Fitness Room Supervisor prepares the Fitness Room budget.

Duties:

  • Manages and supervises the PVCC Fitness Room
  • Establishes safety policies, rules and procedures, and communicates to all clients and staff
  • Monitors the condition of fitness equipment
  • Completes appropriate incident and safety reports as needed
  • Maintains equipment log
  • Trains staff effectively
  • Restocks supplies and orders supplies as needed
  • Submits time sheets for part-time staff and/or work study students
  • Practices safety and risk management
  • Manages locker room facility
  • Prepares yearly budget for review
  • Works with and supports physical education faculty who hold classes in the Fitness Room
  • Helps with other Student Affairs division activities, as required
Special Assignments

May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.

KSA's/Required Qualifications
  • Working knowledge of facilities and fitness
  • Working knowledge of anatomy, safe training procedures and the proper use of cardiovascular, resistance, strength, free weight and related fitness equipment
  • Ability to supervise staff
  • Organizational and planning skills
