Role : UC San Diego is hiring temporary Cooks and Senior Cooks to support campus dining restaurants and retail markets. Duration : This role is temporary and anticipated to last 5.5 to 6 months. Compensation : $25.00/hour. Eligible for Mid-Level Benefits including medical plans, paid holidays, and vacation/sick leave. Cook:

Under the supervision of the Chef de Cuisine, performs journeyman-level food preparation in a campus kitchen. Provides training to staff and student employees in entry-level cooking duties. Performs simple culinary tasks (e.g., short grill, grab-and-go items, made-to-order stations, dressings/sauces, produce prep) and serves up to 1,500 meals per shift. Maintains high standards of food quality, service, sanitation, and safety. Follows recipes and adheres to food safety and allergen procedures. Senior Cook:

In addition to the Cook responsibilities, prepares quality food in dining or catering operations. Coordinates production and presentation, ensures equipment operation and maintenance, enforces food handling, cleanliness, safety, and appearance standards, and assists in training others in complex recipe preparation. Qualifications

Experience working with standardized recipes and production sheets. Ability to safely operate and maintain equipment such as mixers, food processors, slicers, blenders, impingers, gas ranges, grills, fryers, rotisseries, woks, steamers, and kettles. Ability to measure dry and liquid ingredients using standard units. Knowledge of safety, sanitation, production methods, and equipment maintenance. Ability to follow detailed verbal and written instructions with little supervision. Time management and ability to prioritize workload to meet daily production schedules and deadlines. Strong reading, writing, arithmetic, and instruction-following skills. Ability to lift 25 to 50 pounds. Effective communication with customers, students, staff, faculty and guests. Ability to complete and maintain paperwork, including temperature logs and production records. Must comply with all food handler procedures required by federal and state laws and department requirements. Special Conditions

Job offer is contingent on a clear background check. Operating needs may require varied work schedules (morning, evening, weekends, 10-hour days). May require changing work location as needed. Uniform, hair covering, hygiene requirements; promptness and attendance are important. This position has been identified as a Mandated Reporter under CANRA and requires training to report abuse or neglect of anyone under 18.
