Responsibilities Fort Lauderdale Behavioral Health Center is a 182-bed acute care psychiatric hospital located in the beautiful Oakland Park neighborhood of Fort Lauderdale, FL. FLBHC features individual units for children, adolescents, adults, and seniors, and offers inpatient acute care, partial hospitalization, and intensive outpatient programs. On average, over 10,000 patients receive care from our compassionate health care team each year at Fort Lauderdale Behavioral Health.

The Group Therapist facilitates process and psychoeducational groups in the effort to assist patients achieve their treatment goal and optimal level of emotional health during their recovery process. The incumbent facilitates groups with individuals struggling with substance abuse disorder.

Qualifications

Master’s Degree from accredited school in Social Work, Mental Health Counseling, or related field

Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) required

Experience

Two (2) year of experience working in a Behavioral Health Center or psychiatric counseling setting with adults and/or adolescents treating co-occurring, mentally ill, or chemically dependent patients, with an understanding of co-occurring disorders, Therapeutic group procedures and dynamics and Cultural Linguistic Diversity amongst patients.

Licensure/Certification

CPR certification

Knowledge and Skills

Strong therapeutic skills and knowledge of therapeutic philosophies (group and individual treatment skills)

Working knowledge of developmental stages

Some minimal knowledge of community resources

Ability to communicate effectively with patients with varied ability to understand

Strong assessment skills and ability to intervene in a variety of situations

Sensitive and aware of diverse cultures and their practices
