Director, Major Gifts – Southeast

Overview The National Multiple Sclerosis Society mobilizes people and resources to drive research for a cure and to address the challenges of everyone affected by MS. The Society funds cutting‑edge research, drives change through advocacy, facilitates professional education, collaborates with MS organizations worldwide, and provides programs designed to help people with MS and their families move forward.
Responsibilities
Manage a regional portfolio of high‑capacity donors, focusing on six‑ and seven‑figure transformational gifts.
Build and strengthen the portfolio through strategic research, event attendance, and collaboration with colleagues and volunteers.
Drive donor acquisition and long‑term pipeline growth, leveraging internal partnerships and the Prospect Research team.
Stay current on national and global funding opportunities and priorities to ensure informed, strategic donor engagement.
Support and execute national fundraising campaigns, aligning with organizational goals.
Oversee all stages of the donor lifecycle, ensuring meaningful engagement throughout.
Partner cross‑functionally with regional staff, key stakeholders, and volunteers to cultivate major gift prospects.
Participate in regular portfolio reviews to refine strategy and maximize donor potential.
Collaborate with leadership to craft compelling cases for support and develop tailored proposals with Donor Relations.
Implement strategic stewardship plans in partnership with Donor Relations to retain donors.
Utilize CRM effectively for accurate data management and KPI adherence.
Qualifications
Advanced experience in major gifts fundraising, including prospect qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship.
Proven leadership and accomplishment in pipeline development, acquisition planning, and cross‑functional revenue generation.
Strong ability to mentor and train staff toward a shared vision.
Extensive nonprofit experience driving six‑ to seven‑figure gifts.
Track record of implementing innovative strategies that drive engagement and revenue growth.
Advanced CRM expertise and data analytics for decision‑making.
Location Requirement Field‑based role supporting the Southeast Region. Requires 30%+ travel. Must reside within the region.
Compensation and Benefits Estimated range: $140,000 – $165,000. Inclusive of 401(k) match, health & wellness benefits, paid time off, commuter plan, Spring Health Membership, and additional voluntary benefits.
