The
Senior Cost Accountant
will play a pivotal role in supporting the financial health of the organization by leading and enhancing cost accounting processes within a regulated aviation manufacturing environment. This role is responsible for providing accurate cost analysis, maintaining inventory controls, and supporting strategic decision-making through detailed financial insights. Working closely with the site management team as well as corporate and regional finance teams, this position will manage core financial functions including reporting, system maintenance, internal controls, and record keeping. The role is also heavily involved in monthly, quarterly, and year-end closings, as well as supporting special projects as assigned by leadership. Key Responsibilities
Cost Accounting & Operational Support
Manage and oversee all cost accounting functions, including job costing, WIP tracking, labor utilization, and manufacturing margin analysis. Monitor and reconcile manufacturing and inventory accounts to ensure accuracy, consistency, and compliance with internal policies and industry standards. Provide timely reporting and insights on manufacturing variances, inventory valuation, and cost drivers. Collaborate with operations, supply chain, and production teams to enhance cost visibility and drive process improvements. Lead the development, implementation, and refinement of best practices in cost accounting and inventory control. Month-End & Financial Close Activities
Perform monthly and year-end close activities, including preparation and posting of journal entries (e.g., payroll, expense reports, cost accruals). Lead the cost-related aspects of the financial close process, ensuring accuracy and timeliness in reporting. Support budgeting, forecasting, and long-term planning through meaningful cost analysis. Systems & Process Improvement
Collaborate with ERP and IT teams to optimize system usage (Epicor preferred) for cost and inventory reporting. Contribute to the ongoing improvement of financial systems, controls, and reporting tools. Ensure alignment with internal control frameworks and audit readiness. Stakeholder Engagement & Leadership
Partner with internal stakeholders (production, engineering, supply chain, finance) and external stakeholders (auditors, suppliers, regulators) to resolve issues and communicate financial impacts. Provide mentorship to team members and foster a collaborative, high-performance culture. Qualifications & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline (CPA/CMA preferred). Minimum of 3 years of progressive experience in cost accounting, preferably in manufacturing; aviation or MRO experience strongly preferred. Deep understanding of WIP inventory management, job costing, and margin analysis. Familiarity with ERP systems; Epicor experience is a strong plus. Demonstrated ability to interpret financial data and translate it into actionable business insights.
