Responsibilities This position supports the California Department of Public Health’s (CDPH) mission and strategic plan by advancing the health and well-being of California’s diverse people and communities. As the Administrative Support Branch Chief, the incumbent serves as part of a team that monitors, improves and implements local and statewide programs and policies which protect and serve women, children, and families in California.
The incumbent works under the general direction of the Assistant Division Director of the Maternal Child and Adolescent Health (MCAH) Division. The Staff Services Manager (SSM) III serves as the Administrative Support Branch (ASB) Chief for management oversight of the daily operations of the ASB. The SSM III plans, organizes, directs, and evaluates the ongoing operations of the ASB including administrative and business services, fiscal oversight, and the contract management and allocations process. Provides, guidance, and assistance to support the success of the Assistant Division Director, Division Director, and Center for Family Health. The SSM III has managerial responsibility for developing and implementing program policy, priorities, and long-term strategies. Additionally, the SSM III directly supervises staff in the Administrative Support Branch and provides routine feedback, mentoring, communicates expectations and needs clearly and consistently, and cultivates a culture of continuous improvement. This position may require up to 10% travel.
In July 2025, the State of California implemented the Personal Leave Program (PLP) 2025. This program temporarily reduces employees’ monthly base pay in exchange for paid leave credits. This position is subject to PLP 2025 and will have a monthly base pay reduction of 3% in exchange for 5 hours of leave credits through June 2027. The salary ranges shown on this job posting do not reflect the salary reduction.
