Role Description The Senior Client Accountant is a leadership role responsible for managing client financial relationships, delivering accurate reporting, and overseeing bookkeepers assigned to each client. This position requires independence, excellent communication skills, and the ability to provide proactive financial insights. You’ll serve as the primary accounting contact for multiple clients, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and strategic guidance while mentoring bookkeepers and fostering strong client relationships. This position offers significant opportunity for professional growth, with potential to take on increasing leadership responsibilities as the department expands.

Job Responsibilities

Act as lead accountant and primary point of contact for assigned clients, managing their accounting needs end-to-end.

Train, supervise, and oversee bookkeepers assigned to client accounts, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance.

Compile, analyze, and interpret financial transactions and data.

Prepare and maintain accounts in accordance with GAAP.

Assist in budgeting and forecasting processes.

Manage income and expenditure accounts, recommending corrective actions when needed.

Prepare and deliver financial statements and reports.

Support federal and grant audits as needed.

Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local tax regulations.

Manage communication and collaboration with external CPAs.

Identify opportunities for improved efficiency and recommend solutions.

Deliver excellent client service with clear, proactive communication.

Communicate financial insights and solutions clearly to clients and team members.

Collaborate with internal staff to ensure smooth financial operations across all accounts.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA preferred but not required).

7+ years of accounting experience; client‑facing and leadership experience strongly preferred.

Candidates with 5+ years of experience who demonstrate exceptional client management skills and supervisory potential will also be considered.

Proven ability to own client relationships, deliver financial insights, and oversee staff or bookkeepers.

Strong knowledge of accounting regulations and GAAP.

Proficiency in QuickBooks Desktop and QuickBooks Online.

Advanced Excel skills; experience with Microsoft suite a plus.

Experience with General Ledger, account reconciliation, and financial reporting.

Exceptional attention to detail and analytical abilities.

Excellent communication and organizational skills.

Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Strong customer service orientation; comfortable working directly with clients.

Base Salary: $80,000 – $115,000, depending on experience and qualifications.

Retirement: 401(k) with 4% employer match.

Location This is a fully remote position; our team is based in Washington State, and while candidates do not need to reside in Washington, residency is preferred.
