The Department of Biology and Chemistry at the College of Arts and Sciences, SUNY Polytechnic Institute, Utica, NY, is inviting applications for a full-time, tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor of Biology starting Fall 2026. We are seeking applicants with demonstrated commitments to both research and teaching in the field of Molecular Biology, and a commitment to advancing SUNY Poly’s strategic plan and our mission, vision, and values.

We invite applications from molecular biologists working in areas of research with therapeutic applications. Research capabilities and equipment currently available include a biosafety level II lab equipped for mammalian and microbial cell culture, PCR and qRT-PCR; Chemidoc and digital stereoscopic microscope systems, fluorescent inverted microscope, UV spectrophotometry, NMR, Minion DNA sequencer, and other standard molecular biology equipment. Area of specialization is open, but preference will be given to candidates who can teach in the areas of molecular and cellular biology, genetics, or immunology, and design a new upper-level course complementing their field of expertise and compatible with our current biology program.

Description of Duties The successful candidate will:

Teach a mix of biology courses and labs. A typical teaching load is three courses per semester, but during the first two years of the appointment, a reduced teaching load of two classes per semester can be anticipated, to provide time to establish a research program and develop courses. Faculty also may use funds from externally sponsored research programs to reduce their teaching loads.

Maintain an active research program that involves undergraduate students.

Collaborate within multidisciplinary teams that pursue external funding.

Engage in professional or academic activities in campus-based, local, regional or broader communities in an effort to make a positive impact and advance the recognition and reputation of the College of Arts & Sciences and SUNY Poly.

Other reasonable duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Ph.D. in Biology or closely related field from an institution accredited by the US Department of Education or internationally recognized organization.

Preferred Qualifications

Preference will be given to candidates with a strong track record of externally funded and published peer-reviewed research in their area of specialization.
