Assurance Experienced Manager, Accounting Advisory & Outsourcing
BDO USA invites applications for the role of Assurance Experienced Manager, Accounting Advisory & Outsourcing. This position manages the full life cycle of all finance and accounting outsource engagements, including proposal development, staff oversight, final work product review, and overall portfolio financial performance. The role also handles client relationship management, regular client meetings, financial reporting, billing, and issue resolution.
Job Summary The Assurance Experienced Manager oversees all assigned engagements, provides technical expertise in finance and accounting, performs general ledger reconciliation, and delivers accurate financial statements and analysis. The manager designs integrated solutions, calculates engagement cost and benefit, and presents recommendations to client leadership. The role supports change management, conflict resolution, and fosters strong client relationships.
Responsibilities Client Service Delivery
Manages the full life cycle of all assigned engagements by providing technical expertise in all areas within finance and accounting.
Performs complete general ledger reconciliation and records transactions in a general ledger.
Creates accounting records such as bill payments, client invoices, payroll, and other adjustments.
Produces accurate financial statements and provides financial analysis.
Understands technology packages, describes system functions, and recommends proper usage.
Facilitates effective discovery meetings with clients and maps current finance and accounting structure.
Designs integrated solutions, outlines the solution in a concise document, and vets it internally with leaders and stakeholders.
Calculates benefit to a client in dollar terms, compares margin, and proposes a fixed fee based on current scope.
Works with Senior Managers to formulate recommendations on technical accounting issues, financial accounting policies, and financial management issues.
Periodically reviews solutions with clients and recommends appropriate changes.
Gathers and follows up on necessary information from clients, organizes it for the team and the client, and maintains strong business relationships.
Understands tax planning concepts for various business entities and refers tax related matters to Core Tax and Specialty Tax Services.
Business Development
Learns business development strategies and service offerings targeted for various industries.
Ensures prospect and sales information is entered into CRM as appropriate.
Recommends and designs solutions for clients.
Evaluates clients for acceptance and develops statements of work based on solutions with support from leadership.
Develops exposure to industry teams and business development resources and participates in industry trade groups and networking events.
Listens for and identifies new opportunities with existing clients and communicates those potential opportunities to leadership.
Begins to articulate the Advisory service offerings to a client, prospect, or contact.
Understands and articulates the value proposition and target market/client profile.
Developing Others
Fosters a culture that embraces change and accountability.
Identifies staff needs to develop analytics and forecasting skills.
Ensures staff are trained on all relevant software, processes, and resources.
Acts as a career advisor to staff as appropriate.
Evaluates performance of staff and assists in developing goals and objectives to enhance professional development.
Participates in recruiting efforts for staff and assists with new employee onboarding.
Serves as a resource for staff while developing an in-depth knowledge of finance and accounting functions, technology, and tax planning.
Project Management
Creates a work plan following best practices of project management.
Bills engagements in a timely and effective manner and contributes to economic management matters.
Scopes a new project and constructs a fee estimate/budget that considers all appropriate details.
Oversees client satisfaction with quality of work products, assigned staff, and engagement performance.
Ensures clients are billed timely and resolves billing issues.
Other duties as required.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Supervises daily workload of staff on assigned engagements and reviews work products.
Supervises overall client engagement and works with BSC personnel on applicable client engagements by reviewing work and providing feedback on final work product.
Education and Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or relevant field; or equivalent experience required.
MBA or other advanced degree preferred.
Seven (7) or more years of experience performing general accounting transactions and functions required.
Three (3) or more years of supervisory experience preferred.
Experience working with outsourced and/or delivery center operations preferred.
Consultative or business advisory experience preferred.
CPA certification preferred.
Experience utilizing industry standard accounting software and BDODrive platform software such as Intuit’s QuickBooks Online (QBO), Microsoft NAV and Bill.com preferred.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Excel, Word, and PowerPoint required.
Prior experience using industry recognized accounting research tools preferred.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
GAAP knowledge, financial statement presentation, and report writing.
Strong analytical and basic research skills.
Solid organizational skills and proven ability to meet project deadlines.
Ability to manage multiple tasks independently or in a group environment.
Ability to travel up to 25% of the time.
Salary Range National Range: $120,000 - $145,000
Maryland Range: $120,000 - $145,000
NYC/Long Island/Westchester Range: $120,000 - $145,000
