Position Overview

Sidwell Friends Lower School is seeking an in‑house substitute teacher to be embedded in the Lower School community, providing reliable coverage and support for our PK‑4th‑grade students. The position is full‑time, starting December 1, and reports to the Lower School Academic Dean. Responsibilities

Daily subbing and duty coverage in classrooms. Coordinating and arranging external substitute coverage for planned and unplanned absences. Maintaining a healthy pool of external daily substitutes and coordinating with the LS Principal for recruitment. Equitably arranging duty coverage (lunch, recess, waiting wall) when multiple teachers are unavailable. Facilitating communication between teachers and external substitutes by collecting sub plans and reviewing them. Communicating with the LS administrative team regarding performance issues with external substitutes. Working with the lower school administrative team to provide semi‑annual trainings to the substitute pool on logistics, safety procedures, and cultural expectations. Supporting student well‑being, partnering with families, assessing student progress, and participating in Meetings for Worship, faculty meetings, and duties. On days when a daily sub is not needed, providing extra support to teachers with administrative work, pulling small groups for differentiation, and covering duties. Qualifications

BA degree in Elementary Education or a comparable field; preferred. Previous elementary teaching experience. Student‑centered approach, differentiated instruction, and culturally responsive pedagogy. Risk‑taking, flexibility, collaboration, positive community spirit, and strong communication skills. Salary

Salary Range $49,677‑$66,491, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Application Process
