Azure Cloud VDI Engineer
We are looking for a highly skilled and driven Azure Cloud VDI Engineer to architect, build, and optimize our next‑generation global Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) solution in Microsoft Azure. The engineer will design, deploy, tune, and cost‑optimize Citrix‑based VDI services for a global end‑user community.
Key Responsibilities
Architect and deploy Citrix VDI services in Azure to support global end‑user computing needs.
Design, implement, and maintain dynamic scaling and automation for just‑in‑time desktop provisioning and efficient resource usage.
Engineer and optimize Azure cloud resources (compute, networking, storage, identity) to support a scalable and secure VDI infrastructure.
Conduct benchmark testing of VDI images, analyze performance metrics, and implement tuning measures to ensure a high‑quality user experience.
Collaborate with security, network, and support teams to meet compliance and availability standards.
Evaluate and pilot alternative VDI platforms (e.g., Azure Virtual Desktop, VMware Horizon Cloud) to compare performance, cost, and manageability.
Monitor, analyze, and continuously improve the VDI environment for optimal performance and cost‑effectiveness.
Maintain documentation for architecture, deployments, performance baselines, and configuration standards.
Stay current with industry best practices, emerging technologies, and evolving cloud VDI trends.
Required Skills
Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Science.
5+ years of experience with Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops, including deployment, management, and performance tuning in enterprise environments.
Strong experience with Microsoft Azure, deploying and managing VDI‑related resources (Azure Compute, Azure Files, Azure NetApp Files, Azure Monitor).
Solid understanding of cloud‑based automation and orchestration tools (PowerShell, Terraform, Azure Automation, ARM/Bicep).
Proven ability to implement scalable, cost‑effective, and performant virtual desktop solutions in the cloud.
Experience with image optimization, session performance tuning, and capacity planning for VDI workloads.
Knowledge of identity management and access control integrations (Azure AD, Conditional Access) for secure desktop delivery.
Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and documentation skills.
Willingness to support an on‑call rotation.
Security clearance level: TS/SCI with polygraph.
US citizenship required.
Certification: 8570 compliant with a Security+ certificate.
Location and Working Arrangements Onsite, Annapolis Junction, MD. Less than 10% travel. Full‑time, 40 hours per week. Telecommuting is not offered.
Compensation The likely salary range for this position is $110,500 – $149,500, based on experience, geographic location, and contractual requirements.
