Senior Technical Claims Specialist, Construction Complex
Liberty Mutual Insurance is hiring an experienced claims professional with complex and litigated construction liability experience to serve as a Senior Technical Claims Specialist in our Construction vertical.
Base pay range:
$82,000.00/yr – $157,000.00/yr. Actual pay will be based on skill, experience, education, and location.
Description In this role you will determine coverage, investigate claims, set and adjust reserves, evaluate and negotiate settlements, authorise and resolve claims, and serve as a subject matter expert on complex construction casualty matters. The role focuses on Bodily Injury and discretionary Property Damage claims; construction defect losses are excluded. If you live within a 50‑mile radius of one of our hub offices (Boston, MA; Westborough, MA; Plano, TX; Suwanee, GA; Indianapolis, IN; Hoffman Estates, IL; Lake Oswego, OR; Las Vegas, NV; Chandler, AZ; Weatogue, CT), you will be required to attend in‑office twice a month. Remote candidates will be considered if you do not live within 50 miles.
Responsibilities
Owner of the claim: determine coverage, investigate, determine liability, set and adjust reserves, evaluate, negotiate settlement, authorise and pay claim; may deny claims.
Review lawsuit documentation and supporting documents, claim file, investigation; establish actions to resolve lawsuit.
Determine loss coverage, amounts owed, discovery plans; set reserves and negotiate.
Establish appropriate working team (Home Office Legal, Defense Counsel, Home Office Claims) based on allegations established in suit.
Manage practices and billing activities of outside counsel.
Secure financial processing of claims and safeguard claim file information.
Train and mentor staff; manage relationships and liaise with business partners (e.g., Underwriting, Reinsurance).
Stay abreast of legislation, court decisions, trends and experience on specialty coverage issues.
Analyze impact on claims policies and procedures; advise Claims.
Take appropriate action where required.
Participate in special projects.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree and 5 to 7 years of claims adjusting experience.
Advanced knowledge of commercial casualty claims investigation, coverage evaluation, reserving & expense management, resolution strategy, negotiation, litigation management, and the insurance legal and regulatory environment.
Intermediate to advanced level of customer focus, problem solving, communications, teamwork, adaptability and demonstrated ability to work independently and achieve results.
Construction Liability and/or Commercial General Liability claims experience preferred.
